Does anyone's child wear glasses?
I think my daughter will needs glasses - she has a lazy eye that turns inward when she bring object close to her face. It is most noticible when she is eating, however occasionally it happens when she is playing too.
Has anyone experienced this? I did a search on it and no topic was found regarding infants.
If anyones child does wear glasses, what is their condition, to correct vision or to strenghten a muscle? How in the world do you get the glasses to stay on a 13.5 month old?

Re: Does anyone's child wear glasses?
Has she always been like this or did you/your ped just notice this? Speaking from experience, this what you need to do. You need to take her to an eye doctor. An opthamologist, not optometrist. They may be able to correct the lazy eye by putting a patch over her eye so that the eye can build strength and focus. she may/may not need glasses afterwards. There are a TON of children that start wearing glasses early on, so I wouldn't worry about how she will keep them on. Once she realizes that she can see with them on, she will know to keep them on.
Good luck!

Re: Does anyone's child wear glasses?
My Pediatrician never noticed it before and he always does the light/eye test. I called them and they advised me to see a pediatric eye doctor which we did. We took their recommendation and saw someone is Rockville Centre. Dr. Doyle said that she is completely fine in all areas except for when the eye turns in. THe condition is esotropia. He said glasses would correct it and she would only need them until she is about 10 years old.
I left the office feeling overwhelmed and more confused. It was almost as if he was too quick to say she needed glasses. I just wasn't prepared to ask the right questions. He mentioned the patch but was leaning us toward the glasses. I just want the glasses to be the last possible route to go.
The patch is our next step - It is very hard on me to her she has a condition - a correctable one but still a condition that needs immediate attention for the best possible outcome. We have another appt with the same Doctor in June just to see if anything has gotton worse/improved. We plan on getting second opinions.

Re: Does anyone's child wear glasses?
I would go for a second opinion. I don't understand why they wouldn't want to treat it in any way now.
I can totally understand how concerned you are, but please be thankful that it's something like this that is correctable and not something more "serious" or life threatening. I know that when it comes to our babies, we get so wrapped up in it and somehow feel guilty about it, but I know that she'll be just fine!

Re: Does anyone's child wear glasses?
Leslie, 1st, HI!!
and I almost had a similar situation with Gianna.
By 5/6 months of age, they thought I should bring her to an optometrist due to a possible lazy eye. What is crazy was I didnt see it but was happy they made me go. I also know that my MIL and SIL have this problem.
In the end, it was nothing but I am aware that a patch can correct it.
Maybe definitely get a 2nd opinion.
Im sure Elaina will be ok

Re: Does anyone's child wear glasses?
Thank biscoti for your kind words!
Debbie - How are you? What did the Doctors say about Gianna? Do you notice her eye turning in now that she's older? If you have a moment, FM me. Thanks.
