does anyone's DC have asthma? SAW THE PED TODAY
At what age were they diagnosed and what were the symptoms that made you go to the ped and get checked? (asking bc I know in small children symptoms are little different from adults)
Thank you
update:
We saw a PED today, after we described DD's symptoms he said it "could be" be an exercise induced asthma. He did listen to her lungs and said everything sounds fine (DD was crying while he was listening, which is good in this case) But considering that DH has a strong family history of asthma he referred us to an allergist/asthma specialist. Will try to make an appt next week. I pray that this turns out to be nothing ...
He also wants us to give DD a swine flu shot soon , especially if she really does have asthma

Re: does anyone's DC have asthma?
DD was diagnosed at 3. Hers is luckily more of an exercised induced asthma or acts up when she is sick as well. She was wheezing and short of breathe when she ran around playing for too long outside.

DD was diagnosed at 3. Hers is luckily more of an exercised induced asthma or acts up when she is sick as well. She was wheezing and short of breathe when she ran around playing for too long outside. I have noticed lately that whenever DD runs around a little she starts coughing, it's not a lot, but she'll cough 2-3 times , that short, dry cough and then asks for her "baba"(water) once she drinks water she seems fine. I also notice that when she cries too much she sounds like she can't catch a breath or something, it's hard to explain. I am going to take her to see PED next week.
What were the tests they did for your DD . How did they diagnose it ?

Re: does anyone's DC have asthma?
18 mos.
had no idea he had asthma.
never a resp issue before that. not a sick kid at all...
stopped nursing on 6/12...he caught a cold from his friend...woke up funny from a nap, like an alien trying to escape from his stomach...heavy breathing.
called dh at work, said i was taking him to ped's. We got there and I was so stupid...I have zero idea the kid was in distress. They threw him in an ambulance and he was hospitalized. That was 6/17.
They called it RADS. Too young to test, has to be hospitalized 3 times to call asthma.
That was June, by the end of Sept, he had been in ER 4 times. Oct was 2 more times. Pulmonologist officially diagosed asthma.
From that point, they did an allergy test on his back. His asthma is brought on by colds, trees, dust, and crying(emotional).
We changed our life around...bought a house in a better air quality index area, made his room sterile(no curtains, toys, hypo allergenic bedding, removed carpets)
Vitamins everyday.
Took him off of gluten, he has a slight allergy.
Took him off of dairy after much reading...even though he isn't allergic, it causes extra mucus that will only aggravate constricted airways.
good luck! I hope its nothing!
he rarely ever has asthma at the park...and if he does I believe its caused by trees and not the running around.
