Does anyone's ped give the MMR and Chicken Pox vaccine together?

At the same visit?

DH might have misheard but that's what he told me (he admitted he might have misheard)

DS didn't get it today (15 month well visit) anyway because he's getting over a cold but he is scheduled to get both at his next appointment in 3 months.

I have always done everything on schedule but this is making me uncomfortable. Chat Icon

Yup! DS got both of them at his 15 month visit. Ironically, no reactions coming from the kid who typically spikes a fever with shots. Go figure!

Yes, all 3 of my children got MMR and Chicken Pox at their 15 month appt.

I've followed my peds schedule for all vaccines though. The ONLY exception being Swine Flu and Hep B.

Re: Does anyone's ped give the MMR and Chicken Pox vaccine together?

Ok I am glad to know this isn't something totally out of the ordinary.

DS has never had a reaction to a shot, and I've never hesitated to give whatever the ped says he is scheduled for - they are very, very good about keeping detailed records and never giving more than two shots at a time.

Re: Does anyone's ped give the MMR and Chicken Pox vaccine together?

They tried to at 1yr. I refused.

I pushed her Chicken Pox shot off by 6weeks. Came back for it separately... I felt it was too much. But I always do.

At 15m she got PCV & Hib. I put off the Dtap until 18m. I follow the CDC's schedule but work within the ranges they provide.

My ped does but I will not be doing this. What's even odder is that the ped told me IF you don't give them the same day, they must be a mth apart. That alone makes me even more leery....so I will space them out for sure.

Same for DTap. If you don't do at same time as MMR, it must be done at least 1 month later.

Re: Does anyone's ped give the MMR and Chicken Pox vaccine together?

Mine does too but my ped also knows how I feel about spacing vaccines and giving too many at once so she didn't push it. She just told me to schedule an appointment a month later to get it taken care of. I love my ped. Chat Icon

Re: Does anyone's ped give the MMR and Chicken Pox vaccine together?

Our ped office does both at 15 months. However, I was able to push them off a bit (by working the system a bit Chat Icon ); Chicken Pox at 18 months and MMR at 26 months.

That's probably for billing, not medical reasons.

Re: Does anyone's ped give the MMR and Chicken Pox vaccine together?

Yup and we split them up. Kaydyn had a reaction to every single one of her vaccines up to that point. She was supposed to get the MMR, Chicken Pox and one other vaccine at her 12month appt. I only did one at a time. We went once a month so she was caught up by the time of her next appt.

Actually I dont think its for billing. I tried to schedule her Chicken pox at one month and THEY turned me away. Said minimum of 6weeks from the MMR before she can get the Chicken Pox vacc.

No my ped doesn't like the combo shot he separates the MMR from the chicken pox by the 30 day rule.

YUP! Mine does this but because I had to give DS the H1N1 (b/c he ended up with pneumonia and they strongly recommended it) I decided to give him the H1N1 and Chicken Pox this visit. He will get MMR at his 18 months appointment.
