Does Costco automatically renew your membership?

We opened a membership December 2010. At the same time we opened the Costco Amex card.

Now, I have never been notified that my membership is up for renewal. I checked the credit card and I don't see a charge for it either.

We have been there many times since December 2011 (when our memberhip should have expired)

Could they have just added it on to my bill when I was purchasing things and not say anything?

yes they do..at least they do to my amex. We never really use it and haven't gone to Costco in so long but every year they charge our amex card the membership fee.

This reminds me that I have to call and cancel my membership..; )

No they don't normally.
We were there a few weeks ago and after they told us our memebership was expired. They asked if we wanted to renew right then and there- otherwise we coudn't have made the purchase.
But they asked.

We have been Costco members for at least 10 years and they have never just charged the membership fee to our AMEX. It gets charged the next time you make a purchase.

Thanks ladies. They actually did charge my AMEX automatically. My membership was up in Oct not Dec, that's why I didn't see it on the statement.

I think you have to be enrolled in the auto pay, which I don't remember signing up for though

this has happened to me where they ask if you want to renew but when i get to the register, they just added it to my bill

I have a Costco AmEx and it gets automatically renewed and billed to the AmEx. I might have signed up for that, but it's been so long since I got the card, I don't really remember.
