does winthrop have private rooms
Hey, I didn't even think of this yet...but my doc is affiliated with winthrop...do they have private rooms..or do you have to share

EVeryone i know that delivered there had to SHARE.

I understand they do, for an extra (paid in advance) $200/night. They are available on a first-come basis.
I am planning on getting one myself, because I want 24 hour rooming in, and also because I had horrific experiences with room sharing at NSUH.

I was lucky not to have a roomie when I delivered, but I kept thinking how unsanitary it would be to share a bathroom with anyone when you are bleeding all over the place.
I think I would opt for the private room if I ever have another child.

yes, you need to request it and the price per night went up to $220. you may not get it even if you request it, depending on who came first.

When I delivered DD there in '06 the first thing I did was request a private room. I didn't get it!! It was sooo busy there. (I delivered in March) The first night I didn't even get a room! I had to stay in recovery 'till the next morning because there were no available beds! I personally didn't like having a roomate, but I know everyone's experience is different. I'm hoping when I deliver (at St. Charles) this time around, I can get a private room

Good question. I just mentioned this to DH and of course he says NO not for extra money. LOL In the end it is my decision. He doesnt understand because he will prolly be able to go home and sleep in our own bed.

dh already knows that this will be MY decision and it will come down to what I think is best.
Start priming dh now - why should it be up to him? will he be bleeding after pushing out a 7# baby and leaking fluids? Tell him what you want and put your foot down!

This was precisely my issue at NSUH TWO times!! The bathrooms were dangerously unsanitary. I was not expecting to be as comfortable as I am at home, but the doorknobs, switchplates, all the surfaces! - were issues. Other women's fluids - no thanks! (Sorry if too graphic!)
Also, 24 rooming in is really important to me, and I believe you can only do that in private rooms. I would hate to have to hand my baby over; I will have waited nine months to be with him/her, and I want the baby with me.

also, with Winthrop's visiting hours being 1-8pm, I don't want to be stuck in a room with someone who has a parade of visitors all day long! i sure hope i can get my own room!

DH is all about the private room at any cost...God i love my DH!!! Besides he is sleeping there all night long… there is no him leaving me in that scary place!!!! I to hope for the private room at Winthrop...i hope there are not too many people giving birth around Christmas time!!!!

You have to pay 220 a night for the private room and request it as soon as you get there.
I had a csection and it was sooooooo worth it. I will def. have a private room next time also!

No. DH cannot stay overnight.
The private rooms are 1st come 1st serve. You cannot reserve one in advance. You need to request the 1st thing when you register when you come to deliver.
They are $220 per night. But sooooo worth it.
I did not have one on my 1st night and it was a nightmare with the roomate.
My tip is to INSIST and keep asking if a room become available. I was able to get it for the rest of my stay. I had a c-section and was really able to rest in my private room.
