X-Post from Preg. Private rooms in hospital...$$$?
Any recent moms know the deal??
Are any of you requesting one? If so, do you know how much they cost (particularly LIJ)?
I had one in Sept. 05 at LIJ and it was $300 a night and soooo worth it (even for 4 nights...hehehe)!!! A friend gave birth at LIJ on Saturday and she requested a private room. They are 1st come/1st served there and they didn't have any available, but she said the cost was $500/night!!!
Does this sound right? I don't think I'm going to splurge this time around if it's that much.

Here in OH everyone has a private room...they are actually birthing suites where you have the baby and recover in the same room. Their is a pull out couch for dad, a whirlpool tub...its like a little vacation!

Here in CO too. I cannot imagine sharing a room with someone while in the hospital. Actually all the hospitals that I've been to here are all private rooms, not just maternity and it's no extra fee. Sorry to hijack your thread.

Same here at the hospital I delivered at in Chicago. No whirlpools though. Just a bathroom with a shower.

Re: X-Post from Preg. Private rooms in hospital...$$$?
I was at a hospital in NYC and it was $400 a night.
I did not do it. I was going to but I had DS via c/s at 8:55. I was in recovery until 3 am because the pain meds weren't working and I still couldn't feel my legs. So, I didn't want to pay for that night. Then, I said if I felt the need, I would request one for the second and third night. Honestly, I really liked my room mate and I had someone to talk to. I would have went crazy if I had to hang out by myself. I am a very social person.

It doesn't cover the additional expense so you have to pay the additional out of pocket.

Hmm I had a private room with a shower in Winthrop just this december and didnt have to pay anything for it!
I guess my insurance paid it and we were never told about any extra fee's when they put me in there either.
After birth they wheeled me upstairs she brought me into the room and said oh you lucky dog you got your own private room. No one ever said anything about $$$$$.
and we got our insurance bill allready for our file, nothing about it either.

Same here and I believe we paid $250 back in '06. They wouldn't take AMEX points.

I should respond to this annonymously just in case the hospital police decide to come after me now but we had one at Mercy and they never charged us for it. We thought it was about $200 and were prepared to pay for it, but oh well (insert shrugging shoulders emoticon here ) At least we saved on something. Unless it does go up crazy like $500 by next time we'll definitely do it again. It was really nice to have my own space.

LIJ is $500/night. We went on the hospital tour 2 weeks ago and were told this. They are first come first serve. When the lady said $500/night DH looked at me as if to say "Don't even THINK of asking".
And it's out of pocket.
We were told that if circumstances were that they felt you "needed" a private room, they would give you one at no cost. Some examples she gave were if you were ill after delivery or other sad extenuating circumstances. She did not elaborate.

Same here in Orange County. I felt like I was in a hotel! No tub, but did have my own shower. It had a hair dryer in the bathroom and I used it!
It also had a mini fridge, that came in handy too.

Same here in Cali! There is no way I could share a room! I liked walking around with my butt hanging out of my PJ's so I wouldn't stain them

I just delivered at NSUH-Manhasset and when I was in recovery they had a sign up that said private rooms went up in price. I know it was in the high $400's.

OMG same here Kristen... I keep waiting for a bill to come in the mail but its 8 months later and nothing yet! maybe my insurance paid? strange...
In the future I will DEFINITELY have my own room again. We had easily 15 visitors every night so I needed it!
