Private rooms at the hospital

Are any of you requesting one? If so, do you know how much they cost (particularly LIJ)?

I had one in Sept. 05 at LIJ and it was $300 a night and soooo worth it (even for 4 nights...hehehe)!!! A friend gave birth at LIJ on Saturday and she requested a private room. They are 1st come/1st served there and they didn't have any available, but she said the cost was $500/night!!! Chat Icon

Does this sound right? I don't think I'm going to splurge this time around if it's that much.

I believe it was about 400$ at North Shore - around that ball park - last year when i gave birth.

We choose not to get a private room though.........

$460 or something like that at North Shore Manhasset. Honestly I could care less about a private room - unless I have a crappy roommate.

I think it was $150 at Southside... I forget what they said. But I do recall them saying that you may get lucky and get a private room free if they are available. I am going to ask for one when I go, see if I can get it free. If you "reserve" ahead of time, you have to pay.... I hope to find out for sure in the next few days so I will let you know!!!!!

I didnt want the expense, but I was VERY uncomfortable in their rooms last week with a roommate. She had the "door" bed and I had to walk past her and everyone in there visiting her every time I wanted to use the bathroom and ask people to move out of the way so I could get by and I woke her up almost everynight walking by....It was very uncomfortable.....

i know the rooms after birth are a little larger, but the TVS are on the same wall so the curtains are always open and I just hate walkign past someone so many times.

All of the rooms where I am delivering (in NJ) are private. If they weren't I would definitely pay the extra money (no matter how much) to get one...I think it is very important.

This is the one LUXURY I am allowing myself.

I stayed in a hospital once and hated it. I could not sleep (she snored!!!), complained the whole day and had visitors all the time.

I want privacy and be able to sleep/rest especially because I will be BF.

I will get one if they are available.

I just told my mom, I decided we are going to do this too if available. Its worth it to me too after the experience I had. I was miserable.

Re: Private rooms at the hospital

I would definetely want a private room. Huntington Hospital I believe is $300-400. I can't remember what my cousin said but around there.

I heard the food they provide is much higher quality too. Is that true?

Re: Private rooms at the hospital

I am def. requesting a private room. Last week when I was visiting my cousin she was sharing a room. Her roommate must have HATED us.

When I was there it was just me, her, her husband and her three year old son. Well, my nephew was screaming and we were playing hide and go seek - he was crawling onto the other side of the curtain - and all I kept thinking was "If I were those people over there I would have a heartattack" -- they weren't even talking to each other they were so quiet.

I think that anything over 300 a night though is a bit excessive and don't think I would go for it then.

I got lucky that my hsopital (in charlotte) only has private rooms...they just built a brand new maternity ward with 28 private rooms, a day bed for the dads, a refrigerator, dvd player and radio. It was like a hotel room....I loved it Chat Icon

My MIL works there and I did the tour a few weeks ago... they NEVER give them for free... but, I agree with other posters..... it is DEFINITELY worth the expense. Im really worried about delivering with too many women and having to be doubled up.....
