Re: does your dog have allergies??
My dog has both seasonal and food allergies. If he eats anything with tomatoes he breaks out in hives, with his seasonal allergies he licks his paws, and his eyes and ears get itchy. The vet said to give him benedryl to help with the allergy.I would take him to the vet and see what he says.

Hey Deanna!
She definitely could have allergies - what food are you feeding her?
Allergies usually make the paws itchy - that was a big sign with us - Lilly is allergic to chicken.
A call to the vet might be in order - they will probably want to see her. I'm sure they'll tell you to give her Benadryl, how much depends on how much she weighs.

Re: does your dog have allergies??
I actually just posted about this recently. I suspect Brody does have allergies and I am not sure to what. He has been licking his paws and shaking his head due to itchy ears. Also alot of eye mucous and scratching. I have tried adjusting his food to Natural Blends and got him some holistic treats. It may be seasonal allergies so I may go w/ the Benadryl and see if he improves.

i hate that its so hard to figure out what it is!! Shea's ears are fine... its just the paw licking and the scratching of her legs... so im wondering if its seasonal...

Re: does your dog have allergies??
Yes. We were told by the vet to give him some benadryl and also wipe his paws with hypo-allergenic / non-scented baby wipes when he comes in from the yard.
ETS: Childrens Benadryl not the adult Benadryl.

Re: does your dog have allergies??
My dog has environmental allergies, so changing her food did absolutely nothing. If you really want to know what your dog is allergic to, you can get tests done at the vet or an animal dermatologist. It gets expensive, but at least then you know what the problem is, and you might be able to fix it.
We have to give our dog allergy shots now, but for relief in between the shots we were told to give Benadryl (adult strength, 1 tab per roughly 6 hours - and this is a 16 lb dog) and a spray-on oatmeal-based itch reliever (we got it from the vet, but they sell similar formulas at PetSmart, Petco, etc.). She also has a prednisone prescription (steroid you can get from the vet), but that needs to be medically monitored very carefully.
