dog barking all night long
Our next door neighbors have 2 dogs that they keep in the backyard. At night, the dogs bark all night long -- literally from 8pm on and off until almost 4am. Our master bedroom is the closest room to their backyard, so the barking wakes us up throughout the night (and yes, its LOUD). Its at the point where we just can take it any longer. This has been going on for months! DH has to be up for work at 5am, so he cant be woken up like this all night long.
The problem is, we're somewhat friendly with our neighbors. I want to say something to them, but I know they wont do anything about it. They have tried to control the barking in the past by yelling at them when they bark and they refuse to bring the dogs in the house. What are my options in this situation? WWYD?

Wow
i would be violent if i lived next to people who kept their dogs outside all the time
Is it possible to call the local precint?
What about calling the town on them?
Is it bothering other people as well
Do they keep these dogs outside 24/7
Even in the winter?
If so i would go animal control, they should have those dogs taken away and placed in a home more loving.
I am a HUGE animal lover, i do not believe a dog should be left outside 24/7

Maybe print out your town's noise ordinance, highlight the key areas and slip it in their mailbox. It is a violation of the law to allow noise, whether intermittent or consistent during certain hours. Since you are friendly with them, I'd stay as anonymous as possible. Of course, the right, but most difficult thing to do is confront it directly and ask them to please take the dogs in. But then, when they don't and you need to take further action....it will cause your relationship to go sour. I feel for you....I'm going through the same thing....one on each side. I've often been tempted to throw a little benadryl wrapped in a piece of cheese over the fence!!! Why would anyone think that it's o.k. to allow this to happen? It's unbelivable.

welcome to our apartment! It's not nightly but more then enough time there lovely yappy dogs kept us out most nights. I wonder how they themselves sleep with the barking! Since we rent we put up with it for now except for one day it just wouldn't stop and it was FREEZING out so we called 911 and put a complaint in.
Seemed to stop it for a while.

DH and I are still on the fence about calling the cops. I'm not sure if when the cops respond to a noise complaint if they tell the homeowners WHO placed the complaint. I'd rather remain anonymous to avoid any problems with them  But the noise is just unbearable at night and DH is at his witts end!
Yes, the barking does bother the other neighbors -- they've actually mentionned it to us. But they dont want to "start trouble" since they just moved in a few months ago, so they havent called to complain.
The dogs are kept outside 24/7 (even in the winter). We live in NC, so it doesnt get quite as cold here as in NY, but still... I feel bad for the dogs. I would call animal control but I honestly dont know if its against the law in fayetteville for dogs to be kept outside in a fenced in yard
