Dog Destroying Toys
My dog is small, he's 17 pounds but he must think he's some pit bull or sometihng. He destroys every toy we buy him, we have gone through 6 or 7 beds and in a year and a half at least 20 toys. Nothing works, I've bought toys meant for dobermans or rotty's and he rips right through them and ribs them into itty bitty pieces.
Thankfully he chews nothing but his toys or beds. I've relegated him to toys from the dollar store, they usually last 3-4 days a piece.
Does anyone have suggestions on how to get a dog not to destroy toys? Is that even possible?

Re: Dog Destroying Toys
My puggles are really rough with their toys. The only brands that last a long time at my house are Nylabones and Kongs. We have the Kong frisbee, ball, thing you can stuff, etc.

Another vote for Nylabones and Kongs. Other than that, we get toys with the expectation that they won't last long. Also, as our dogs have gotten a little older (they're 4 now), they're not quite as rough on the toys as they used to be.

Re: Dog Destroying Toys
i know all of my dogs LOVEEEEDD to unstuff stuffed animals... we would just take weekly/monthly trips to the dollar store or red cross or flea markets... and just keep a stash on hand...
they do make "un-stuffed" animals for dogs, basically the toy without the stuffing... never bought one though....
Kongs are good, ive just always found them very heavy and if thrown around the house can break stuff... the larger ones at least.

Re: Dog Destroying Toys
My dog does the same thing! He has destroyed so many beds. It got to the point where I just sewed the areas he ripped open because I refused to buy more. He tears open anything with fuzz and pulls out the stuffing. He also pulls squeekers out of toys.
My dog has also destroyed nyla bones! So far, good ones have been the extra strength kong, a squeeky soccer ball, the Hol-ee Roller (ball with holes), and a huge stuffed bone. He pulls the wrapping off of tennis balls, he chews chunks off his rubber gumbi. It's horrible! We have to watch him when he chews his toys!

Re: Dog Destroying Toys
Our jack russell is the ultimate toy destroyer... rope toys and nylabones dont even stand a chance either. Forget about tennis balls or stuffed animals BUT Kong and Orka toys have lasted now for years! And for Christmas Murphy got a tire toy which seems indestructable but he just doesnt like it much.
ETA: I bought all those toys at Petco.

Your dog sounds like my guy. Have you tried the "unstuffed" animals? They are one of the only toys he has not managed to destroy.

Re: Dog Destroying Toys
I have two pitbulls, they love all their super small toys, like the vending machine ones, any birgger aney take out all the stuffing-lol. I started buying toys and "unstuffing" them and giving them the carcasses and they loved LOVED them. Now that I have foung the already made unstuffed toys they could be happier. I would also recommend the Kong toys. They may get bite marks but they have yet to destroy them. Also, if your pup is stilll a puppy, freeze the toys, my girls are 4 and 6 years old and love when they get "specials" from the freezer, good luck and remember to hide alll your high hells, I had to learn that lesson the hard way
