Dog Urine Smells
What can I use to get rid of the smell? He has had accidents on the rug and its smelling. I am using a dog urine cleaner ( I forgot the name) and its not working. I can still smell it. What can I use that will work.
TIA

Re: Dog Urine Smells
Just keep on scrubbing and trying different products. It's hard to find one that gets the smell out completely though.
Is he having a lot of accidents? Do you crate train him? Maybe that's something to consider.
ETA: We've always used the carpet shampooer at my mom's house for this.

Re: Dog Urine Smells
My pup had a UTI and she had an accident on the rug and it STUNK! I was thinking about throwing it out, thats how bad it smelled.
I used nature's miracle on it, and also cleaned under the rug and the floor because it seeped through.
Then I would spray the rug every other day and I vacuumed over it so the brushes would hopefully clean the top part of the rug.
Good luck!

Yes Jill- he is having alot. We are starting to think about the crate training. The only thing I am afraid of is that he has stopped crying at night and I am afraid if I start the crate he may start the crying again. But then again- a few sleepless nights will be better than a stinky house.
I am looking into carpet cleaners also

Re: Dog Urine Smells
I have found white vinegar and water work the best to eliminate the smell. Mix one part vinegar to 3 parts water. Blot the area with paper towels then pour on enough of the vinegar and water to cover the stain, let it sit then blot with paper towel and then rinse with plain water. I found that the nature's miricle eliminated the smell for me but the dog could still "find his spot" and would keep going in the same spot. I think crate training when you are not home is a good idea. Our trainer told us the dog needs to earn the right to roam the house freely and until he earns it he should not be out of our sight. It worked really well.

I agree with your statement too. Our past dog buddy was confined to the kitchen until he was able to learn to use paper and then he was supervised. He had free range of the house when he was 100% housebroken
He too was crate trained and cried but we left stuffed kongs in there and he would freely go in his crate, lie down and get his kong. So he associated the crate with something good.

ITA, word for word. We recently stopped crating our dog Lucy but had to keep the damn crate because she loves it so much. Now, it's her home- she takes EVERY treat and toy in there with her, it's actually pretty funny.
I guarantee you'll be a lot happier with the pup when he's crate trained.

My dog does this too- He also goes in there if he is scared or trying to get away from me when I am grooming him.
