How do you keep your pets off the furniture ?? Any tricks ?

They stay off the furniture when I am home, but as I pull out of the driveway there they all are on the couch looking at meChat Icon Chat Icon

Worst part, my dog sits on the couch and licks himself on there. so there are gross spots when I get home.

I don't even try....both animals sleep on the furniture and in our bed....I've been doing this for years. Besides, I love snuggling with them on the couch or in bed.Chat Icon

I knew I was fighting a loosing battle, but thought someone here might have a fabulous idea!

I recently put sheets on them while I am out, cuts down on the vacuuming. but the dog licks right thru them. I just put a plastic tablecloth under the sheet today, I hope that will stop the transfer of dog slober Chat Icon probably not though

Thanks everyone.

Re: dogs and furniture

Well being that he thinks he's human, I don't think it's possible with our dog...

Our solution was a to get a really good vacuum...and some fabric cleaner for when he decides to bathe on our sofa.

Re: dogs and furniture

I dont try either....all whave are leather couches so it is easy for me to clean. He is really good on the couches and I know he will go there when I am not home

plus he sleeps in our bed which we didnt want to do but he sleeps an extra hour when he is with us and it is so worth it to me!!!!!

Re: dogs and furniture

put cardboard covered in cellophane. It makes a crinkly noise that will repel.

Unless they are chewers, then I would not suggest that.

Re: dogs and furniture

My dog was trained as a puppy that any furniture in our house is a no-no

What about maybe putting stuff on the couch like boxes or something until they get the idea? I don't know - I thought I would put something out there

This is what I was thinking, or flipping the cushions up so there is no where for them to go

absolutely. even if i try to test them by calling them when i am in there, they wont go in. they dont try to sneak in either. they shed like crazy and i would find hair all over the furniture. the only time i relent is if it is a really bad thunderstorm and then they are only allowed to sit by my dh's chair which is right on the edge of the living room. they have the run of the rest of the house. they dont need to be in this room at all.

Thanks!
I was starting to think I was the only pet owner that didn't want to share the couches with the animals.

I have a 70 lb dog, i tried everything from laundry baskets to dining room chairs. He knocks them on the floor when I leave, or he'll sit on top of the couch which dents the cushions.

so far the sheets w/ plastic are keeping it clean and i think the plastic is discouraging them. i dont think they like it!
