Driving your dog to a store for the sole purpose of having your dog by your side while you shop is different. I think it's idiotic. Well said. I could not agree more. And the city is more friendly for the reasons you specified. It is just a different way of life. But if someone asks themselves, what should I wear today, my red purse or my dog bag, well then that is a different story to me.
Either way, if someone encountered me and my dog in a store and said they were allergic, I'd be more than willing to leave.
ITA as well.

Re: dogs in stores
Ok... as a former clothing store owner... I DID NOT want dogs in my store. Obviously if you could carry them, fine. But big dogs? When did this become acceptable in clothing stores? Trust me... I have a dog. I LOVE dogs! I would have people shopping in my store with HUGE dogs!! I NEVER understood it. When I FINALLY put up the "No Dogs Allowed" sign, people b*itched. But let me tell you... have you ever seen what happens when one dog smells another dogs scent on a clothing rack? Yeah, they pee. Then to have the owner of the dog look at me like I'm crazy for being upset!! I'm not saying every dog does that, but it happened in my store more than once. OBVIOULSY pet stores - yes. But clothing, supermarkets, etc? Where do you draw the line? I love that they have bars and restaurants around that allow you to bring your pets. I think that's a FABULOUS idea! But to just *assume* that it's OK to take them shopping with you? Not so good.
