Dogs with allergies

The dog we are hoping to adopt has pretty bad allergies and is on a strict food diet. Rabbit and potato is what the owner feeds him now.

Does anyone have any experience with this. From what I remember, he is allergic to beef, chicken, pork. I forgot what else.

I wonder if there is cheaper dog food. This food is for an 8lb bag its $30

My dog has food and skin allergies.

I feed him Iams lamb and rice and give him AllerG-3 fish oil supplements and that seems to be working with him.

I would ask your vet and see what they recommend. His food is not expensive ($40 for a 48 lb. bag in BJ's) and the pills were $20 a bottle. The bottle came with 60. He took 2 a day the first week and now only 1 a day.

Hershey has lots of skin & allergy issues too! we have been feeding him Nutro since we got him & he has never had a problem with it

we have, however, taken a trip to the vet ER due to allergic reactions and he is always having some sort of skin reaction to the environment... the vet said he has VERY sensitive skin

Not sure if it's allergies that cause our issues, more like dry skin. We have him on a limited ingredient diet too - Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Fish. We pay about $46 for a 28 pound bag which lasts about a month.

There's a lot of information out there about what can cause allergies, how to remedy the situation. Concentrate on the symptom and how to fix it - in this case dry skin and smell.

We bathe our dog once every 4 months or so. Sounds bad but he doesn't stink in between. We bathe him less frequently so we don't dry out his skin with too-frequent bathings and shampoos. The one we use is oatmeal based and very gentle. Got it from the vet.

We are also very careful not to brush him hard with harsh brushes (furminator) and add oils and supplements to his food.

If I had known about this before we got him, I still would have. It sounds like a lot but to me, it's just a part of being a good doggie parent.

I pay $53 for a 28lb bag of Eukanuba Sensitive Skin Formula It lasts 1 month here. But I've been through hell and back with different foods and this is the only one that works for us long term. Eukanuba is wonderful!!
