Door Open or Closed
Do you keep DC's door open or closed at night? And why?
We used to keep her door open (we'd open it when we were going to bed), but it's directly across from our room, and right next to the bathroom, so it's a noisy spot. We've kept it closed the last few nights.

Closed. It's much safer if you have a fire in the house, it keeps the fire out of dc's room a little longer.

Agreed. It's not just the fire. The smoke inhalation is the key.
We were always taught it was safer to sleep with bedroom doors closed.
Plus, if winter ever actually comes, it will help keep the rooms warm.

I keep it almost all the way closed. Just till it hits the door jam, not pulled closed.

This is why we keep it closed too (although I am sure that DH has no idea that that is why!).
My dad was a fireman and he always had us keep the doors closed at night.
We also close all the doors that we can before we go on vacation for the same reason.

Re: Door Open or Closed
His room is right acroos from mine - and between the dog and the TV on all night long I keep it shut.
ETA: It doesn't click shut bc I have something hanging on top of the door - but it's closed all the way.

Re: Door Open or Closed
We keep it slightly open. If one cries out and I have to go in there I'd rather not open the door and make noise - it would wake the other one up (yes even more than the other one crying!).

Keep it shut with all the noise from the TV and dog. We can hear him cry in the house without any problems or a baby monitor.

I keep it closed due to noise, *Knock on Wood* ever a fire, and to keep the cat out.

I honestly never thought about the fire factor. We keep it closed b/c of noise.

Re: Door Open or Closed
Closed for noise mostly, but as he gets older I can see him climbing out of his crib so that door will stay closed, he is safer that way.

Re: Door Open or Closed
We keep the door closed because I feel it keeps the noise out. Our bedroom is right next to my son's. Plus, DS goes to bed early and when my step-sons are over, it can get noisy just from them playing, etc.
I didn't know about the fire safety issue either. I'm really glad to learn that and I'm glad I've been doing something safe even though I wasn't aware of it!!
Thanks!!

I used to keep Katherine's door ajar, then I began closing it due to fire concerns. Once Abby came, both of their doors are closed for sure since I don't want them waking each other up!

Open.
I know that's bad but I need the potty readily available. Fumbing with the doorknobs is the difference between a quick trip to the potty & a 3am full bath complete with mopping the floor.

Same here. Plus, it kept DC in his room when he was old enough to get into trouble wandering around the house, but too small to open the door, or be potty trained. Now he can open the door on his own, but it still keeps the noise out, and potential fire. We also have window AC, so in the summer, we just want to keep the bedrooms cold, not the hallways.

Re: Door Open or Closed
I keep it half open. I use a gate in his doorway so the dog can't get in and then one of those foam door stoppers they sell at BRU up on his door.
