Double Stroller Question for BTDT Moms of 3.5 y/o and Newborn
Hello all,
I have am currently pregnant with DS #2, due in April. DS#1 will be 3.5 y/o when the baby is born.
Did you find it necessary to have a double stroller? Or not? Please advise.
If so, I was considering getting the sit n stand.. Are there any other strollers you would recommend?
TIA Erica

So I'm not a mom of 2, but I have a City Select and I think it's the perfect kind of stroller for this age difference. You can use it as a double or a single, and I believe there is also a board that can attach to the stroller for your older child to stand on. I definitely don't think I would buy a stroller that is permanently a double stroller with that age difference.

Things to consider before making the investment of a double stroller
1 - How much do you use a stroller - do you use it as a main source of transport or just to go from car to mall, to park etc,
2 - How attached is your older one to the stroller?
3 - Does your current dc walk alot now

This is good.
My DS is now 4 and still will get in the stroller. We use it mainly for walks and for places iwth a lot of walking (the zoo and such). We got the City Mini double and are happy with it.

Re: Double Stroller Question for BTDT Moms of 3.5 y/o and Newborn
My son was 3.5 when my daughter was born. I bought a double months before she was born. I wound up using the double stroller once! I was so excited to have a great double stroller, and it was such a waste of money.
The weight disparity between the two kids made the stroller very difficult to steer. My dreams of long walks with the kids on maternity leave went out the window, since I couldn't even walk in a straight line.
And as it turned out, I never really went anywhere with the kids by myself, so I didn't need a double after all. On the weekends when we went out, my DH took my son in a shopping cart or the Maclaren single, and I pushed my daughter in her stroller.
And the double stroller I bought, could have, but didn't really fit my infant carrier all that well. It wasn't secure enough where I felt safe around curbs or big cracks in the side walk.
I think if the kids were closer in age, and if I went out a lot on my own with them, then a double would have been a no-brainer. But for us, two singles was and still is way better than one double.

DS is 3.5. He had used a stroller once in the last 6 months. We didn't even really need it. Heck, last time my 2 yr old used a stroller was 6 months ago.
We walk everywhere: zoos, parks, Disney.
My advice: wait.

Re: Double Stroller Question for BTDT Moms of 3.5 y/o and Newborn
DS was 3 when DD was born. At that time he was very rarely in a stroller and we used shopping carts or he walked. But i decided to get a joovy sit and stand and its been great. He just jumps in and out when he wants and i dont feel silly pushing it when its just DD cause its not crazy long or big. I would definitely invest in a sit and stand if you opt against a double stroller.

I would wait and see. My kids are only 2.5 years apart (youngest is only 3 months) and we haven't needed a double or even a sit n stand yet. It's really going to depend on your lifestyle.

I'm going to agree with those who have said to wait.
My DDs are only 20 months apart and I didn't even get a double! I did get a Sit &Stand but probably used it 10x...for neighborhood walks only; that thing never saw the inside of my car.
My 2nd DD was 3.5 when my son was born and I had already gotten her used to walking, so no double at all there--I had even thrown out the Sit & Stand by that time.

We usually just put him in carts. Otherwise he would walk.

I couldn't imagine not having it. We have a citi-mini double. We go for walks outside and it definitely came in handy when I was out alone with the kids. Consider buying a used one if you don't want to spend a ton of $.

DS1 was 3y3m when his brother was born, and we didnt get, nor did I ever feel the need for a double.
If I was to have another tomorrow (DS2 is now 2y10m) I wouldnt get one either. DS2 rarely sits in a stroller now, so it would be a waste.

my advice, wait.
DS was 33 months when DD was born. Now she is 1 and he will be 4 in May. I am selling my sit and stand and buying an umbrella stroller at this point. He walks! He was totally a stroller baby as well, that ship has just sailed at this point!

Re: Double Stroller Question for BTDT Moms of 3.5 y/o and Newborn
I have a Mcclaren double (the cheaper of the 2 they make). It works for when I need to do something with both (a mall errand, airport, late stroll). DS2 will sometimes complain and suddenly want a stroller seat when I have the single with me and DS1 is occupying! It is not infant ideal for the first few months (I used my uppababy with the skateboard at first). I looked at the City Select double but our DS was actually almost too big for it (with canopy) and it was much too heavy for my limited needs -- easier to stroll, yes, but much more difficult to get in and out of the car!

I would wait and see how it goes then or look for a 2nd hand double. I now my older 2 who are 4 and 5 would still hop in a stroller at any chance they have.

Re: Double Stroller Question for BTDT Moms of 3.5 y/o and Newborn
My oldest was 3 when DD#2 was born. DD#1 was in the stroller ALL THE TIME! It was like jail as far as I'm concerned, lol! When I was shopping for my double, the salesman was really good, and steered me away from a side by side b/c of the weight difference. He said it would make it really tough to steer. I ended up getting a Graco Quattro Tour Duo. It folds up to the same size as the single Graco. I used it a lot. Now that I have DS, I got a sit n stand b/c he is 4 years younger than DD#2, and I thought it would be too hard to push the Graco double. I actually did take it out once, and it was not bad. I definitely need a double with my 2.

Double Stroller Question for BTDT Moms of 3.5 y/o and Newborn
My boys are exactly 2 years apart and DS1 LOVES his stroller so we got the City Select Double. Let me tell you it was the best thing we ever did. DS2 is only 2 months and we have already used the stroller numerous times.
