Doulas?
Is anyone here using one. If so how did you find them, what hospital have they delivered in and does your insurance cover them. I am interested in having one, but do realize they aren't to respected in the medical field.
TIA

Re: Doulas?
I used one for my first birth and will use one again. They are respected by midwives, that I know. I use midwives and have natural childbirth and having a doula is so helpful.
I'm not in NY so I can't help you on finding one.
They are not covered by insurance. Mine is $500. I'm sure in NY they are more.

Re: Doulas?
well, there are many affiliated with stony brook hospital... as are midwives. unlike midwives and OB's, they really aren't medical professionals in a traditional sense.. they're more like labor 'therapists'. they mentally keep you going and keep you focused. They suggest positions to help your labor along.. almost like professional coaches. they also advocate on your behalf when you and your DH are having a meltdown.
I am not using one, but my friend did and she LOVED her doula.
