Dr. appt Saturday to discuss TTC... Help!
Hi Ladies,
Well my DH and I finally came to the decision that we would like to start TTC in the spring (March or April??). So I called my OBGYN today to try to schedule an appt to talk to my doctor about it because I know that he is very hard to get in with on a Saturday (which I want so DH can come). Usually when I ask for this particular doctor (big practice) for a Saturday - I usually have to wait a month and a half. So, with this in mind, I called today thinking I will get a February appt??? Well, the girl tells me that he is open for THIS Saturday! I told her that we really weren't looking to come off BC until March and she said that's fine and we could still come in this weekend and discuss "a plan". So, my questions are:
1. Is it too early to have this appointment? Our time frame was to come off BC in March, wait until May to start TTC; and
2. What kinds of things should I be asking? What can I expect out of this appointment?

I honestly don't think so I had a appt today with my obgyn for my annual and she gave me a ton of helpful information on ttc. Plus some good magazine and phamplets to read and a prescription for vitamins

I honestly don't think so I had a appt today with my obgyn for my annual and she gave me a ton of helpful information on ttc. Plus some good magazine and phamplets to read and a prescription for vitamins

When I went for my 6 month check up I told my OBGYN and he just told me things I could do. I asked if I needed to have a sonogram or any tests done and he told me no, not until Feb if we haven't conceived by then!

When I met with my OB for an exam before I was officially ttc, she just told me to try for 6 months and come back if nothing happened.
I don't really know if they will be able to give you much information that warrants a seperate appt.
But if the nurse is telling you to come in, maybe It will be different for you.

Well, that's pretty much how I felt. I didn't know what to expect when I told her that I just wanted to dicuss TTC and maybe get vitiams, etc. I wasn't sure if she was going to tell me to just discuss it at my next check up or if the doctor could prescribe vitiams without me coming in.... I was a little surprised when she said to come in this weekend to "discuss coming off BC". I am new to all this, so I thought maybe it was a normal thing???

I did exactly what you are doing. If you know when you want to start TTC, it is never too early!
As for what to expect, we were asked about our histories, health, things that ran in the family, etc. I think it helps to think of any questions you or DH might have!

When I went in for my annual, I discussed with my OB TTC. He basically just said take Folic Acid and if i'm not PG within 6 months come back (with DD he wanted to see after a year). Good luck!

When I went to my doctor to discuss TTC she recommended I have a blood test done to check on my immunizations.
She gave me a whole bunch of prenatal vitamin samples and did an internal exam.
My doctor made me really excited about starting this whole process, there is so much to learn.
If this is your first time seeing her, she will also discuss your lifestyles and medical history.

Well me and dh where ttc for a few months and stopped a month or 2 ago due to some medical reasons. I had my annual visit with my obgyn and started talking to her about it. I just have to wait for a few more test to come back then we will be back at ttc

I honestly didn't go to my ob/gyn at all before TTC.
When I DID talk to her about TTC, she basically only told me things I already knew from this board...

i would definitely go!!
there are plenty of things to discuss and a plan of action for when you do start trying and stop the BC..
you can get your vitamins..
see if they order bloodwork for you.. to make sure everything is A -ok..
get tips on TTC... BD schedule, possibly use OPK.. i am sure there are a ton of things you can learn from this!
since you are not trying right away i would definitely bring a notebook with you to write down so you have it !!

It's not tooo early --I first saw my doctor about 3 months before we were going to start ttc
I found it very helpful to talk to a professional about what to expect
