Dr. Brown's bottles pulled from shelves
I am in the middle of investigating, but my friend said she heard Dr. brown's is being pulled from the shelves because of a chemical that leads to reproductive problems. Has anyone heard this??

I haven't heard/seen anything about it being pulled...
I searched for articles on news websites to no avail... maybe it's just a rumor?

I haven't found anything either. Rumors like this were bound to happen just to add to the hysteria

Re: Dr. Brown's bottles pulled from shelves
Here is the article. It was in the Post.
February 28, 2007 -- The feds plan to investigate whether exposure to a chemical commonly found in plastic products such as baby bottles and food containers causes health problems, officials said yesterday.
The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences will convene a panel of 15 scientists next week to review whether exposure to Bisphenol A causes developmental or reproductive harm.
In a separate study, Los Angeles-based Environment California said tests on five brands of baby bottles - Avent, Dr. Brown's, Evenflo, Gerber and Playtex - were found to leach enough of the chemical to harm animals

Re: Dr. Brown's bottles pulled from shelves
I spoke to my peditrician yesterday during Hannah's visit and he said not be concerned. He did suggest never heating plastic in a microwave, which I don't do. He wants to see what the NIH panel says next week, but told me that we've been using plastic bottles for about 30 years now and there's been no drastic increase in cancer rates since the switch from glass.
So as others said, IMO until the manufactures actually start pulling their products I wouldn't worry too much. But do what makes you comfortable.

Re: Dr. Brown's bottles pulled from shelves
This whole thing is crazy -- I found a lot of old research on this topic before I chose my bottles. I went ahead with Avent b/c I could pump directly into them and all tjhe studies showing leaching were old (before 2003) and only showed problems when filled with boiling water. So I figured the bottles must be safe b/c these facts have been out for several years and the bottles are still being made w/ the same plastic. I wonder if there's anything new to these studies. I wouls hate to switch b/c I love beibg able to pump directlt into the bottles. AJ only gets bottles 3 days a week, but I hate to think I am doing him harm. This stinks.

Re: Dr. Brown's bottles pulled from shelves
But who heats the water in bottle to a boiling point in the bottle then gives it to DC?
I wouldn't put a plastic bottle in boiling water on the stove to warm it though.
I doubt any of us do!
Take these things with a grain of salt, until i see proof real concrete studies of normal use of plastic leaching into anything then i'll go to glass.
Normal use meaning, lukewarm water heating bottles in bottle warmer, microwaving for 20 seconds.
Hey while we are at it, stop drinking juice, soda, water, basically any kind of food, liquid we ingest out of plastic bottlesa and don't warm your lunch in rubbermaid, tupperware, gladware, etc. either.
If it doesn't directly come from the enviroment there's always a risk of something somewhere, you always have to weigh the risks vs benefits and that's true for everything in our life.
FOr now, i will keep drinkkng my bottled water, putting my leftovers in plastic containers and giving my DD her advent bottles.
Rant done

Ah ok...so this is the same scare from a couple of days ago. As far as I know they haven't pulled any bottles from the shelves.

I always used powder and then room temp water so I never had to heat his bottle up but I have always heard that you should never heat anything up in plastic.
