Re: Dr. says I am overfeeding DS - please help. LONG
I think Doctors of today are too hung up on kids being obese. How can you OVERFEED a baby?? That is ridiculous. Why can't he just be a healthy eater?
I wouldn't listen to him..I'm sorry.
ETA: DD was 7lbs 20" at birth..6 weeks later she was 11lbs and 23" and her next visit is coming up and I'm SURE she's at least 14-15lbs. If my doctor even THINKS about telling me she's overweight or to stop feeding her, I think I'll lose it! If she's hungry..I'm feeding her..bottom line!

Re: Dr. says I am overfeeding DS - please help. LONG
Emma grew THREE inches between her one month and two month check ups. I forget what she gained, but it was a few pounds. I was concerned and asked my ped. He emphasized that I should feed on demand, and said that it was hard to overfeed a baby.
Eventually, her appetite tapered off. She is big for her age, but our ped said that pregnancy genetics drive the baby's growth for the first six months.

my DD i at 1 month was drinking a 4 oz. bottle every 2 1/2 - 3 hours and at 2 months a 5 - 6 oz. bottle ever 2.5 - 3hours she weight 13 lbs. at 2 month check up.. so I guess I might be overfeeding too! but if she's hungry I feed her. The dr. never told me it was too much. I hate to here her scream becouse she's hungry... I get very cranky too when I'm hungry and don't eat! LOL

Ever think the scale was wrong? When I brought DC after one week from her being born the scale said she gained 3 bls. there was NO WAY!!!! The scale was totally off.
Please think about it. i wouldn't deny the little guy food. Peds are NOt always right. You know best.

Re: Dr. says I am overfeeding DS - please help. LONG
I think babies go thru growth spurts at different times and don't worry about the scale and I think at this age - gaining weight is great!! My son gained 3.5lbs between his 6 weeks and 11wks and grew 2.5 inches. My dr had no problem with it. He was 14 lbs 8 oz and 25 inches at 11 weeks and was only born at 7lbs 1 oz so he is growing like a weed. He is 12 weeks now and I weighed him and know he is over 15 now (the scale actually said 16 but I bet 15 and change).
I know with both my boys - no way would they ever go past the 3 hour feeding schedule no matter what I tried (with my fist my dr said I should try to push for a 4 hour feeding schedule) and so I gave up trying. They are just big boys, they are always 90ile boys. Personally, I'd ignore the drs orders and let nature take its course. I think the only rule my dr said was keep formula between 32-35oz/day which my son typically is right in that range.

Tell the doctor to go scratch!!!!!!
DS is exactly 2 months old and has gained over 7lbs since birth!!! He is eating five 8 oz bottles per day and is HUNGRY. We just took him to the doctor today and the doctor was FINE with his height and weight.

Re: Dr. says I am overfeeding DS - please help. LONG
I was told you cant over feed a baby by my ped BUT sydney was spitting up a lot and then i took her to a Gastro Doc and she told me i was overfeeding. She said to make sure i was feeding every 3 hours and to start with Cereal and fruit for breakfast. I think 4 hrs is a little long to make a baby wait if all they are getting is formula..I would get a second opinion. ONce i started spacing the bottles better and giving the cereal and fruit..Sydney changed completely.

I think that is ridiculous. My ped says to feed him as much as he will eat.
My son has doubled his weight in three months. Tell that one to your ped and see what he has to say. My ped has no concerns at all about this.

Re: Dr. says I am overfeeding DS - please help. LONG
Dr's advice is just that, advice- not gospel. You are his parent and you have to make the right decision for yourself. That said, I don't think you should try to stretch it out that much at one time. If you really want to heed what the Dr. said, then do it on your own terms. Try holding out for 10 minute increments. As he gets used to it, you camn go longer. But you will find that even if you get to the point when he eats every 4 hours, he will still occasionally need to be fed every 3. You just have to follow his cues.

I'd get a second opinion if I were you. I wouldn't immediately discount what your ped. has to say. I'd talk to another doctor first. Does he spit up a lot? I'm sure you're not overfeeding him, but if it were me, I'd want to see another doctor just to make sure.

I think at a certain point, you can give a baby too much formula...but since I'm not a medical expert, I could be wrong. What about giving an occassional bottle of water instead of formula? That's what my sister's pediatrician told her to do for her 3 week old because she was eating constantly.

Re: Dr. says I am overfeeding DS - please help. LONG
My ped says to give them as much as they want as often as they want. My DD is going to be 9 months shortly and at her last visit about 2 weeks ago he said the same thing. Give her what she wants.

when i would try to have DS go for a longer stretch of no eating, i would try to distract him by walking around holding him or taking him for a walk
