Dr. Trivax post consult~ 2nd failed IVF kinda long sorry
So I met with him for over an hour. He said he's impressed with my research and questions.
So basically this is what went down:
This cycle was better than last one- better embryo quality
Wants to push to day 5 for next cycle regardless of how many embryos I get- last two were 3 day. didn't do that in past bc I don't produce many but he said at this point, might as well try with what we do have and see how they do.
Last cycle I had 3, one was too big. But I had a few smaller ones also that grew but never made it to maturity. With acupuncture that could change. I've never had more than 3 so he was hopeful with that. I'm going to continue with acupuncture. Twice a week
Wants to keep me on femara but up my menopur and follistim. Keep baby aspirin
Post retrieval wants me to take cipro- adding prednisone as a precaution in case there's any inflammation. Of course Estrace and endometrium.
Said to keep my 5 frozen still. My only ovary is still producing so he said to do another fresh while you still have this one working- keep those 5 in case this ovary stops.
Still doesn't feel like I need the hysterio exam- that long ass named procedure. Or the endometrial biopsy. He said the water sono was enough for me and all looked great. The hysterio is to check for blocked tubes I only have one tube an am not doing IUI. I don't want Anything done i don't need but I'm still nervous about it.
He gave me a look when I mentioned immune testing. I think he feels many drs do it for the $$ that if you test enough you will find something wrong in everyone regardless. He said he wouldn't recommend it for me but if I wanted to do it that would be my decision.
Same with PGD at his point.
I'm going to go for second opinion. Put in paperwork to have my records released to me. Debating on who to go to for second opinion. Just wanna see if the would do anything different for me or do they agree with what's being done so far. Takes 2 weeks to get paperwork
I have an appt with hershlag although he doesn't take my ins- it's out of network for me- a consult wouldn't be too much out of pocket. That practice is so much $$ but I heard its more personalized and thorough.
I'm going to call dr Kreiner with Li IVF. I'm covered with him. He did first IVF baby on LI I believe.
I'm skipping this month. Need a month break to regroup. Give my body a grace period from all the meds get my records , go for a second opinion and get more acupuncture.
My head is pounding. And yes I had a glass of wine tonight with dinner.

Thank you. He wasn't trying to talk me out of it just wasn't trying to talk me into it. Where did you get yours done. It's expensive isn't it?

Dr. Trivax post consult~ 2nd failed IVF kinda long sorry
Hey...I am so so sorry you're going through this. I want to had my experience. Please just think about it. Dr. T is a family friend. Needless to say I sought him out first when I needed an RE. I did 2 fresh and 2 frozen there (one dour to lab error). Dr T did my transfers, my retrials, called me when I needed an answer right away...amazing doctor. Was there and got me my embryos.
But....I knew something more was happening. I did PGD to test my embryos for 1 mutation but then when the lab messed up they threw in the entire screening for me. So I knew as much as possible about the embryos I was transferring. Well... I had my highest beta ever and it was great. Until beta 2 and it was a chemical.
Before the second cycle I asked about these killer cells and Lovenox. He told me everyone tested will find some reason to get on Lovenox...basically what he told you. Something was not right.
I immediately while having the chemical saw Dr. Kofinas who believes in immune and blood clot testing. He found out I had several issues....recommended I see him and Dr Braverman but I stuck it out with trivax. Still had a chemical.
I took my case to Dr b and Kofinas again. After all their in depth testing..I needed Lovenox and intra lipids. I transferred my embryos to Gramercy...with my DH and started a FET. I transferred two and now have an amazing DD.
Just a thought. Just my experience. I loved the care Dr. T gave me,....but it's worth a shot to go to someone who believes in something you are questioning. Hugs! Fm me if you need anything.

I haven't gotten the bill yet! But my RE said it would be about $400. I left RSOFNY to go to SIRM in the city....I am MUCH happier.

Only 400 really? I thought it was in the thousands? Is it covered by insurance. I am def going to get a second opinion just deciding on who.

No defintely not in the thousands........ some insurances don't cover it bc it is considered experimental at this point.....I know a lot of doctors look don't look at immune testing as a real thing but i know MANY women who finally became pregnant thanks to intaprapalids and other treatment so i had to rule it out to feel better. My Dr. didn't suspect any immune issues for me bc my issue was embryo quality and not implantation failure which is why he didn't push it but I wanted it just so i could sleep at night. Good luck

Dr. Trivax post consult~ 2nd failed IVF kinda long sorry
When I was told I needed Ivf I left north shore to find a practice with higher stats and lower costs. I also felt like a number at north shore. Now I'm at LI IVF and I'm veryyyy happy there. Haven't started Ivf yet, but I'm confident with my dr at this new practice. Just my two cents on the second opinion ;)

Not sure if going to the city is an option but I love love love my re. He is at RMA in NYC. For the last ten plus years he has been voted one of the top re doctors in the tri state area.
For embryo quality in the 2nd ivf I was put on metformin and dh on Clomid. It worked and the two we transferred were dramatically better. Ended up transferring on day 6 a 6aa and 6ab.

Dr. Trivax post consult~ 2nd failed IVF kinda long sorry
I was a patient of dr hershlag and yes it's more personal than rsny but he doesn't believe in immune issues. I would highly recommend seeking a 2nd opinion from a facility that thinks out of the box. Li ivf, rsny and NSUH are all in the same category. I would recommend sirm or dr b. I have never gone to either but if my fet had failed I was ready to go to sirm

I'm deciding which dr to go to for second opinion. They all have their positives and negatives and everyone seems to have a personal opinion depending on their situation. I have the appt w hershlag but may go to LIiVF- I really just want someone to look over my records and say trivax is doing everything right or he's missing something.

As someone who has NSUH to thank for my DD, Hershlag was one of my least favorite doctors. He is rather arrogant and from what I hear pushes donor eggs(was the head of that program before becomng chief at NS). Just wanted to share. I completely agree w seeking a 2nd opinion. NS was my 2nd opinion. Wishing you lots of luck!!

I'm glad you got to meet with him earlier than you thought. I think it is a good idea to get second opinions. Its good to get a fresh set of eyes. I have already been looking up immune testing. If this IVF (# 2) doesn't work then I will be doing immune testing before FET or another fresh cycle. At this point I just want to know whats wrong. I know many REs don't believe in immune testing but it will give you peace of mind. So far I have heard Dr. B, Kofinas, and SIRM do it. Not sure who else. I don't think insurance covers it but I have heard its under 500.
What are the quality of your 5 frozen ones?
I hope they send you the records quickly and you get some good second opinions. Hang in there.
