Re: Dream feeding

I did. I don't know when I started doing it though- but she was still pretty young.

Basically, I would go in and nurse DD right before I went to sleep- even though she was still sleeping. Usually, it would help cut out one of the middle of the night feedings. Usually she would wake at about 11:30-12 to eat, so by dream feeding at 9 I was usually able to avoid that 12 am feeding.

So would you still burp her?

I feel like my ds is too much of a light sleeper for that. Chat Icon

Re: Dream feeding

I do this! DS is 5+ months and goes to bed usually between 7 and 7:30. If I don't dreamfeed around 9 or 10 he gets up twice a night to eat. If I do dreamfeed its usually down to one night feeding. In fact right now I'm exhausted and would love to crawl into bed but am staying awake so I can feed him. Sigh. One day I will have 8 hours of continuous sleep again. Maybe not until he goes to college. Chat Icon

I did the same...except with a bottle, not a boob.
It was a great way to eliminate the waking for a feeind in the middle of the night!

I guess when he started going to bed earlier, somewhere between 31/2-4 months his bedtime moved from 9ish to 7ish. I was not consistent with it for a while because at first it seemed to make him wake up more. But then after a few more weeks of multiple wake ups I gave it another shot and it worked. So now that I figured out its the only way to get more sleep for myself I try to do it every night.

I know a few of the sleep books recommend doing it around 11 if they go to bed around 8 or 9 but I'm an early to bed kinda gal so it was never worth it for me to stay up that late to try it.

Re: Dream feeding

well we are bad, it started around 10 weeks, we figured out that when he woke in the middle of the night, if we RAN and got the bottle in before he compltely woke up he would just fall back asleep..Once he was up, he was up!!!Chat Icon

so thats really what we do, its a little modified....Chat Icon

Re: Dream feeding

I started doing it pretty early- maybe by 10 weeks. She was just starting to have a "schedule". I noticed that if I fed her while she was sleeping, SOMETIMES we were able to head off the late night feeding. Motice that I said, "sometimes"- it didn't always work.

I always burped her- I didn't need gas waking her up!
