Drive or take the train?
We plan on taking DS (age 1) into the city next month to see the Christmas tree and all of the other holiday stuff. Should we drive or take the train. Either way I have to lug his stroller and diaper bag with us. I don't mind driving in the city. But parking can be a B!tch. And I am not sure of any somewhat cheap parking garages in the area. It is convenient for us because we can leave whenever we want to and not fight the crowds in Penn St. On the other hand, as I said before, parking sucks sometimes...I have no idea what to do...Anyone drive in during the holidays and if so, where do you park? Thanks....Open to suggestions..

Re: Drive or take the train?
i would say train it....... u gonna take cabs once in city? u wont have a car seat... unless DC is still in snap and go car seat, u can hook it up w/out carrier in cab... some people hold on lap in cab in NYC.... i never did but now at 2 would buckle us both in during cab ride. sometimes driving is easier in regards to the whole car seat dilemma. u could walk but it may be freeeezing.....

Do you use a parking garage or are you lucky enough to find street parking?

Most of the time I garage it because it's easier. I usually look up a garage on the website 1st so I'm not driving around looking for one and so I can find the cheapest one. Best Parking

Re: Drive or take the train?
If we are staying in one general area we will train it
If it is a day that requires us going to multiple locations, we usually drive. We either look for parking off the main avenues for a little cheaper option or drive around until we find something on the street

Re: Drive or take the train?
We haven't gone with the baby yet, but since it probably will require some subway travel we'd probably drive into Queens park and take the subway from there. Kinda the best of both worlds.

Re: Drive or take the train?
I vote drive...
When DS was modeling in NYC , we took the train once and it was a major PIA...The strollers don't fit very well on the train, many platforms don't have working elevators and when there are elevators they are not easy to find...
I also like to just pick up and go when I want to (especially when its cold) and waiting for a train can really stink w/ a cranky baby...
Parking stinks yes, but TBH trains are not cheap either anymore !

Drive.
I just wanted to tell you that we went to visit the tree last year with a stroller (DS was about 9m old then) on the weekend and never got there because it was sooooooooo crowded! People were pushing and shoving and telling us we'd never get to the tree.
I highly recommend going on a week day.

I am planning on going Dec. 14th...It is either a tuesday or wed....I am pretty sure we are going to drive. I have been going to see the tree for over 20 years. The last time we went was on a saturday and it was soo bad. We were packed in like cattle...I wanted to die..I will never do that again....Thanks...
