Re: Drivers that commute
I just got back from being out and the roads are very slushy. Also DH is out and about and says the roads are not that good.
Be safe everyone

Re: Drivers that commute
I hate to be one of those people who are always leaving work early for their kids...but I really don't want the baby in the car if the roads are bad...not because of my mom's driving or my driving ability...but because of all the other people on the road.
I heard that their are a few accidents on Nicolls Rd...which stinks because that is the road I usually use to get to my parent's to pick up the baby....I guess there are so many accidents because Suffolk College is right there and lets face it young people are not that experienced at driving in the snow.
I'm thinking of leaving work now...but I always laughed at the people who left early to get the kids....now I think I'm one of them.

IO...i wanted to cry.
Yes you do have bad drivers who think that the light on and off snow is OK to fly in
and it is just plain slippery.
Even getting off the exit ramp i thought i was going to have to go off the road because of sliding

Re: Drivers that commute
DH is going to be stuck until at least 5:00. Afternoon meeting, grrr. I figure he won't be home until at least 8:00. My son's school is dismissing in one hour though so that's a relief.

Re: Drivers that commute
We're hoping to get out early but I doubt it's going to happen. And even if it does, they always wait until the roads are REALLY bad anyway!

Dh got home a little while ago and said the side roads are terrible. He was skidding all over the place on Commack Rd too.

Re: Drivers that commute
I was out with my Jeep in 4WD. It is pretty slippery actually -not for me but for others. Those with front wheel driv emust be very cautious - and remember, a mini-van is NOT impervious to these conditions! Too mini-van drivers drive like they have 4WD - and then slip out of control.
I actually like driving in thei weather -- now if everyone ELSE would just stay off the road!!

Re: Drivers that commute
Thanks Red
Rich is at work now (a stone's throw from Queens) and comes home the exact same way you do.
I don't know if his school is letting out early or not - there's nothing on the website and I can't talk to him during the day.
He's supposed to have a class at Queens College tonight too - still no word on cancellation. I keep checking

yeah, his school rarely closes. The parents are an issue over there- there's no one to get the kids out of school/off the bus because most are working.
My little bro was dismissed early. HS was let out at 11 50.

Re: Drivers that commute
Nicolls Rd. had a bunch of accidents!! I must say that they were mostly kids that had spun across the road or hit other cars.
Also I saw one plow - and lets say the only reason I saw him was that he cut me off and I almost hit him

Re: Drivers that commute
Well I'm due at work at 2:30, and they hadn't called me yet...so I called them.
Ok, most of you know that I work in a physical therapy facility. The majority of our patients are elderly and don't drive in drizzle....WELL apparently they're all coming in tonight So I have to go in and stay to close (8:30, 9ish).
Please tell me- would your Grandmother be out driving in this weather, just to get some PT? I THINK NOT.
And Rich still has class tonight - no cancellations.
