Driving to Florida
My Mom wants me to drive to Florida with her in February when Charlie will be 16 months old. Am I crazy to think about doing this? I can't imagine keeping a toddler strapped into a car seat for 2 days.

Re: Driving to Florida
Well. It depends. DH and I drove from Queens to St. George Island three summers ago and it was HARD.
How does he do in the car? If you drag it out stay over at some hotels and maybe stop someplace to do something for him, it may be ok.
Also, the weather in February would make me a little nervous...
ETA: Plenty of people do it though...

I never thought about the weather! We've done it before without a child and it was fine and he's great in the car, but I'm picturing disaster

Where in Florida are you going? My friend does VA Beach to Miller Place (our hometown) A LOT and she does it solo with her two kids.
She says it costs more, but stopping and finding a hotel with a pool helps b/c that is big thrills for the kids
Like I said, plenty of people do it all of the time, I am just a bit of a diva

Re: Driving to Florida
We're driving down with Logan in September. He'll be 4 months.
I'm thinking he'll sleep for a lot of the time.

Re: Driving to Florida
my advice is get as much driving done as possible during the night. In the backseat, I feel like he is this ticking time bomb when we travel. But if I leave at 3 AM, I know I have a solid 5 hours of carefree travel... If you can drive through the night I would.

Re: Driving to Florida
We did it when DD was 7 months old.
If I remember correctly we left about 5:00-5:30 am. She went back to sleep about 6:30 and slept close to 9:00.
I then climbed into the back and gave her breakfast.
She loves Baby Einstein movies and Elmo movies - so we bought a portable DVD player - hooked it up and she watched alot of that during the ride. We stopped around 8:00-9:00 that night. Then we got up at drove for a couple more hours - I think we got to my IL's at about 2:00-2:30ish.
Honestly she likes the car - so it wasn't that bad
