I am so sorry for your loss.
My mother was killed by a drunk driver in 1979, before the MADD lobby and vehicular manslaughter allowed for a harsher, more just sentence for the victims and families. I will pray for your son.
The ache of loss can still be unbearable but I hope the defendant's guilty plea and cooperation have brought a bit of solace to you and your families.

These stories just devastate me, they are 100% preventable. I am so so sorry for you and your sons loss.
My MIL lost her mother, brother and sister in law to a drunk driver that walked free. This was years ago, in the 70's so the laws weren't harsh enough. Although I don't think 4 to 12 years is nearly quite enough, I hope that brings some justice to his family.

i remember this story too -- so sad. i was so upset by this. you may know, from here and the news, that my brother was hit by a drunk driver. he is a policeman and had one drunk driver pulled over and then, unbelievably, got hit by ANOTHER drunk driver. every single time i write that it still seems hard to believe even though we lived it. i did find that the court case, sentencing, and judgement of it all gave me a small sense of closure. my brother was lucky enough to live but his injuries are catastrophic and he works every single day to get back to where he wants to be. i hope that the court case gives you that small sense of 'something' - you can't really put your finger on what it is but it does help a tiny bit. i hope the same for your son and i pray for him - that he has the strength and faith to believe that even though these awful, inconcievable things happen, life is still a beautiful place and his father who loved him so much will always be around - and will always be cherished and remembered.

Thanks everyone. My son is doing fine. My DH has been wonderful through all of this and so understanding. My son did a MADD walk last month in his father's honor and he seemed proud about all the people that were walking with him.

I am SOOO GLAD this guy pled guilty. I hope they throw the book at him.
I was a friend of Stephanie & Dave from years back. And Kevin's Dad is dating my DH's aunt. Small world all around, but this case really hit me that much more when it happened.

I'm sorry for your and your son's loss.
Drunk driving needs to end. I hope they give him the harshest sentence possible. Hopefully it will dissuade others and save others from suffering what you and your son have had to suffer.
