Dry beans question

On a bag of goya beans, it says to boil for 2-3 mins and soak for 1 hr. We did that and put into simmering chili for 2 hrs now an theyre STILL hard.

What gives?????Chat Icon

I'm no help! I always used canned beans (just rinse and drain!)

Re: Dry beans question

I usually cook the dried beans for 1.5-2 hours after soaking for about an hour. Sounds like those directions are a little off.

How hard are the beans? really too hard to eat or just a little harder than you would like?

Re: Dry beans question

I usually soak the beans over night and then cook them for about 1 to 2 hours---your directions sound off.

Re: Dry beans question

The one PITA about dried beans is that you have to really think ahead of time. Usually, they need to be soaked for several hours and then cooked.

When I use dry beans, I soak them overnight. This is why I now use canned beans. Chat Icon
