Llama Llama Misses Mama is a really good book.. it's about just that.. the mommy going to work and the baby staying at school.. but at the end she always comes back for him.. it's very cute
I was a SAHM with my DS until he was about 3 1/2 and he would get upset sometimes when I started leaving to go to work..
While he was being babysat by my parents/inlaws/his dad..It broke my heart because I had just recently seperated from his dad and was so worried he'd think I was leaving him too..
The only advice I have is to try to remind him why you have to go to work.. which is obviously so you can buy him toys and maybe bring him back a suprise every once in a while.. even something little.. (maybe I'm a sucker but that's what I did)
DS got to the point where he would tell anyone who would listen about how I work now.. but it's okay cause I have to make the "moneys" so I can get him stuff
I know it's hard to deal with and they break your heart a little when they say things like that.. but its only because they love you so much
Oh.. just wanted to add that he DID tell me a few times when he REALLY wanted me to stay home that I don't have to make the "moneys" because DAD makes all the "moneys" and he has plenty
Great advice, I may have this conversation with him tonight.

Re: DS broke my heart tonight
It is so hard. My DS is okay when I leave him in the morning, he knows I go to work, daddy goes to work and he goes to school.....but then I get phone calls from him saying "mommy coming?""Come mommy please"...it breaks my heart into a thousand peices

Re: DS broke my heart tonight
omg I'm so sorry I can imagine how that feels!!
I was HORRIBLE to my mom as a tot when she went to work. I'd make her feel so bad to leave, and when she finally came home I'd completely ignore her and have this scowl on my face. Meanie, I was!! Geez, she felt AWFUL.
I'm sure I'll have my comeuppance soon!
I love all the advice you got- I'll certainly keep it in mind!!! I also love the Kissing Hand book (I read that to Riley the night before I returned to work and OMG I bawled!! )

Re: DS broke my heart tonight
aww Im so sorry What if you played a game of "work" maybe get out like some papers, calculator, go by the computer and have him pretend to "work" and then give him some paper money so he could go buy some things...have him grocery shop in the fridge or buy toys from his own collection. That might put the whole work thing in perspective. I think the calendar countdown is a great idea too!

Re: DS broke my heart tonight
I'm sorry you had to hear that and that your heart aches. I saw some really good suggestions from other posters, I hope one of them works and helps him understand.

Could you bring DS to your office to have him see where you work and what you do? I would try to explain to him why you go to work - i.e. money to buy food, toys, house, etc. I think they really understand a lot more than they are given credit for at this age. I had this conversation with DS a few weeks ago when he was questioning why daddy has to work so late. I am so sorry he is upset.
I wish I could, bc thats a great idea, but its conservative corporate company and they would freak out.
What about after hours or on the weekend just to show him around???

Re: DS broke my heart tonight
No advice, just hugs, mine doesn't talk yet
Do you think maybe he got that idea from another kid in the class??
One of my coworkers has an older child in the Pre K class and the kids was always totally fine, until this new kid started and just had a meltdown every single day that her Mom was "leaving her" ........My friend's kid suddenly started to think she was being 'left' too ........She never thought of it that way until she heard the other kid say it ..........
