Sorry. Our district doesn't have universal pre-k, so I feel your pain. Chat Icon

DD is in, but only if the state budget passes. I haven't been able to find out anything about it.

nevermind... it looks like it just passed yesterday. I checked as I was typing this... Chat Icon Chat Icon

I feel your pain. We didn't get in either. They accepted 140 students and we were #148 out of around 200.

I was really looking forward to the extra money!

Quite a few of the districts around us offer it. Some districts hold the pre-k it at the school - pretty sure Levittown does this. Other districts pay for the kids to go to private schools - Bellmore, Merrick, North Bellmore do this. Last year over half of DD's class were part of Universal pre-k from a local district. The only kids in her class that were paying were the Wantagh ones. We didn't have any Seaford kids so I'm not sure if they offer it. My friend from Massapequa said they don't have it.

I thought that Merrick had Universal Pre-k set up that if you won the lottery, they would tell you which school and session you could go to for free, or you can opt out of the program and pay on your own. Or if you don't win the lottery you have to pay on your own. But you should check with the district, the kid in my dd's class last year may have had a Merrick mailing address with Bellmore elementary schools, it gets confusing sometimes and I can't keep everyone straight.

We're in Connetquot, and our pre-K is at several daycare facilities throughout the district.

The school DD is going to called our house today to let us know that we're all set for Sept., so I guess it's still in the budget... Chat Icon

If its what we have (universal pre-k) then it has nothingto dowith the budget, its a grant so as long as the grants goes thru they have it. At least that's what my schooldistrict told me.

Re: DS didn't get into the school district pre-k

My district (White Plains) does not offer any free schooling for 3 year olds, but they do have a small pre-k program through the ditrict for 4 year olds. It is not set up in all of the elementary schools, just one, which is why the program fills up.Chat Icon

You should call your district office and ask them if they have any pre-k programs available. Chat Icon

I wonder if this is the case for North Merrick. I dont think so thought b/c I've never heard of it. Weird they would have Bellmore, N. Bellmore, Merrick and not N. Merrick? Chat Icon

We are in Helwett and my DD is registered to start their pre-k program in September. They have a beautiful early childhood center which hosts pre-k, k and 1st grade.
