DS has been making this weird breathing sound lately...
But shows no sign of having trouble breathing or being congested. It is really strange. He will sometimes breathe in and out and it makes this sound - maybe like a snoring sound in his throat or a wheezing...other times it is very pronounced almost like what I hear croup sounds like - like a bark...other times it is like a dry rasping sound or if you laugh and breathe in at the same time (even though he is not laughing) This has been going on off and on for weeks. Usually when he is on the go or excited. He is fine in all respects.
I want to ask the ped about it but, I am sure he is going to say bring him in and when I bring him in - if he doesn't happen to make the sound at that time then what?
Could it be his voice developing that he likes the sound or could he be wheezing without having any breathing distress?
ETA: I just read wheezing sounds like a high pitched whistle and that is not really what it sounds like at all - so I am at a loss as to how to describe it! He is 10 mos today,
tia!

I would call the ped and ask to see them. Is he turning blue at his lips or finger nails?

oh wow, I couldn't believe what I was reading because my DS who is jsut about to be six months does what sounds like EXACTLY the same thing. At first my parents who watch him thought it was wheezing but it doesn't relaly sound like wheezing and he too really only does it when excited....he seems perfectly healthy in all aspects, happy as could be, no fever, no blue lips or extrmeties....I have his sixth month appointment and was going to wait until then to bring it up as I have the same issue he doesn't always do it....now I'm wondering if maybe I should call tomorrow.....so weird.......DH jsut thinks it is too much saliva as he is teething but I really dont think that is it.....

Noah did that, had me freaking out, was just him -playing with his throat. I almost took him to the drs about 4 times before I realized he was doing it himself.

This is what DH thinks it is too.
The thing is with bringing him to the ped is he doesn't do it that often - at most 1-3 times a day. I mentioned it at the last visit and he wasn't doing it then and the ped said oh it was probably just congestion that went away - but, its not congestion... I think i will have to try to catch it on video to show the ped...
He is not blue at all - he is not having trouble breathing at any point in time when he is doing this - in fact, he is usually smiley and happily playing when it happens. I did call the ped for it once - he said if it didn't go away to bring him in - it went away. But, now its back....hmmmm....

Perhaps try getting it on video so that if you decide to go to the Dr. you'll have something to show them in case they don't see it?

This is definitely what I am going to do...so far it has been difficult b/c as soon as he sees the camera he stops. I might need to do it from behind him...
