DS has hives... help please.

Hi Ladies,

I'm hoping some of you can give me some opinions on what my son is experiencing and what we should do. I'll make a long story short. Sunday night Matthew had a horrible night and when he got up on Monday we realized he had hives everywhere. We took him to the dr. who said it could be a virus, could be allergies, etc. To give him benadryl for 2 days and to take him for bloodwork if it didn't go away. It was getting better so we held off but it seems to be coming back (we didn't give benadryl at all today). Here is what we gave him that was new:

a pretzel from the mall - very buttery and a bit of salt. We called the place and they said they don't cook with peanut oil but do have an almond pretzel, maybe it touched that and he is allergic to nuts? They also said it has soybean in it (My son had soy formula as a baby... so would he react to soybean if he had soy formula?)

a bite of turnip. He hated it.

I also give him danibals yogurt and thought that maybe the strawberry flavor he was allergic to. He's had it for awhile now, but I stopped giving him that this week.

I'm thinking more than likely it was the pretzel we thought we saw a hive right after that but then it disappeared.

Then today my husband gave him a munchkin....are there similarities between a pretzel and munchkin? I see they both have soybean again.... and he had a flare up again tonight, although maybe he had it but we just didn't realize it during the day?

Finally, should we bring him for bloodwork? I'm so scared of him being stuck with needles, but I guess we should find out what is going on. Any experience with any of this? Any opinions? THANKS!!!!!!

I would bring him for blood work, just to play it safe and see exactly what caused the hives. I hope he feels better soon! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I think I may have an answer for you!!! Munchkins have peanit oil in them!! I wa sont he train last year with my girlfriend and her kids and we had munckins and all of a sudden he broke out in hives! They are highly allergenic, there is a kid in my daughter's class that when someone has a borthday and bring in munchkins, his mother brings him home!!!
Maybe he aquired an allergy. Defunitely get bloodwork, it can save a lot of guesswork, good luck!!!Chat Icon I have a great allergist if you need, my daughte rhad a sever milk allergy.

Ok, forst go to your regular pediatrician and ask them to do a allergy profile, this will give you #'s that fluctuate for various different things such as peanuts, cat dander, environmental, milk, shellfish, etc. The #'s represent the sensitivity to the item. nce that is done you'll bring that bloodwork to an allergist, I used Dr Sampson at Mt Sinai in Manhattan, he is wonderful! I heard it is impossible to get an appt with him but his associates are just as good. Make the appt now becaus eit can take a few months, but based ont he blood owrk you will get an idea what to keep your little guy away from. Good luck, FM me if I can help, I know it can be very stressful.Chat Icon Chat Icon

Dree also used the Mt Sinai group and she was pleased too, their nutritionists are great!!

His name is Dr. Guida.. I dont have the number on hand. I can give it to you later or call information.
Hes real wonderful and great with the kids.
I think you should take him for tests so u know what it is so it dosent happen again
