Re: Hives

Take Benadryl

Dh gets hives all the time and this is the only thing that helps him. But be aware - after you take it you will want to go to bed. It makes you soooo sleepy.

Re: Hives

I am taking CVS's version of Benadryl. Its the same exact thing. I am soooo itchy....I am also putting calamine lotion on.

I took the CVS benadryl at 6:45. I took 1 capsul. I am planning to take 2 more at 11pm....

Ugh how long till it goes away??

Re: Hives

I think that is what I am using...Caldryl clear....The benadryl worked a little bit but I am going to take some more now....2 tablets instead of one for the night....

The problem is I have been working on my house for the past 4 days, and a lot of dust and stuff has been around me...I hope that is not what I am alergic too because it will only get worse as the week goes on

Yes. I had chronic hives from October 2003-July 2004. It was awful. If they dont' go away, I would see your doctor and talk about going for allergy tests. Unfortunately, we still don't know what caused mine.

Re: Hives

OMG.. I totally know how you feel! About 5 weeks ago I randomly broke out into hives. I've never had a hive in my life!! I popped a benedryl because I didn't know what to do. I went to the hospital because I freaked out and thought my throat was closing. The er doc told me it was some type of food allergy. At this point the Benedryl was kicking in and the hives were going away. Meanwhile I have no food allergies and I didn't eat anything out of the oridinary that day. Then about 2 weeks ago it happened again. This time I took the benedryl immediately. I put 2 and 2 together and figured out the only times it happened to me I had taken a generic acetomenophen (Generic Tylenol). The itchiness finally stopped a few days ago.. but I still don't feel like myself. This same thing happened to my cousin and they found out she was allergic to IB Profen. It took a full month for her to get back to normal.

Good luck, and feel free to FM me with any questions!!!

Re: Hives

Nope no poison ivy...but I think that is what I broke out from.

I am alergic to ibuprofin too but I havent taken anything with ibuprofin in a long time...years I would say.

I went to the doctor today and he gave me two prescriptions. One I need to take at night for 30 days, and one I need to take a few pills a day for 5 days.....

Hopefully the hives will go away soon....

Thanks for all your advice

Re: Hives

I think Benedryl has a yopical cream too. That might give you immediate relief. Or maybe try Aveeno?
