Re: DS is getting Speech, feeding, and occupational therapy...
they just play and get to know your child. i sat in on a few of the first sessions to get to know the therapists and they asked me a lot of questions about AJ.
but within a few days (he was getting in the begining 5 ABA, 3 speech, 3 OT, then about 3 months later he was getting 10 ABA)
with feeding we always made sure a therapist was there during lunch and dinner
speech, ot or our ABA therapists all did feeding with him., but it wound up that only one was successful... lol
feeding was the hardest i have to say... there were days where for 1.5 hours (and entire ABA session) we sat at the table and he cried cried cried, but it paid off in the end... granted he doesnt eat a lot but he can tolerate it now
also they learn through play... you think they arent doing anything but they are...
ETA: if the county approved of these services why are they going through your ins? just curious... Ins co. usually only cover a small portion of the therapies and the rest will be out of pocket...

You have FM...
I also agree with the pp, insurance isn't an issue if the county approved services. Your insurance will pay something towards...speech/ot etc but there is no 'dealing' with the insurance. In fact, if you didn't have insurance medicaid would pick it up.

Re: DS is getting Speech, feeding, and occupational therapy...
DS has 10 ABA, 5 speech and 1 OT every week. He has PDD-NOS.
The first few visits is play tiem basically, trying to build a trust with the child and you. If you are not comfortable with someone - SPEAK UP. The 1st ABA person they sent me made me super uncomfortable so I asked for someone new. I'm so glad I did b/c the person who replaced her is an angel. I want to adopt her, that is how good she is with DS.
The key, I have find the short month we've had services is, be consistent! Watch what they did, i.e. pointing, etc. and be sure to do it with DC when they aren't there. Also the entire family and ANYONE who interacts with DC should be doing it too. Grandparents are the hardest to get on board.
If DC is as stubborn as my DS, there will be crying and tantrums. DS cried for 1 ABA session, 75% of it (90 mins). I wanted to throw up but just like CIO, I just kept saying "its for his own good. he isn't in pain. etc"
If you have any questions let me know. I'm still learning the ropes myself.

I was told if my insurance didn't cover EI, then the county will pick it up. Apparently my insurance is covering it.. I just had to get 2 prescriptions from our pedi saying Speech Therapy as needed and OT as needed..

This I'm confused about...when you started the process did you contact your specific county's Early Intervention program or did you call a center first? If you called, let's say Nassau (or Suffolk) county Early Intervention and they appointed whatever services you're receiving (your pediatrician does not have to provide an rx) you shouldn't even have to involve insurance. In NY it is all free through the county, insurance or no insurance.
Good luck with your DS!

EI always tries to bill insurance first, and most don't pay.
