DS is terrified of
The vacuum....
He never was.....a few days after I was home from the hospital- I was vacuuming like a crazy woman, and have been pretty much daily since he was born...
He use to love it, and fall asleep to it... but now as soon as it goes on he SCREAMS...
For the most part I do all my cleaning at night- and he use to sleep right through it.... but recently as soon as it goes on he wakes up horrified!
So I tried doing it during the day- like while he was in the swing or something... and again... SCREAMIN AND CRYING...
The only thing that kinda worked was holding him while I did it.... but that def. isnt a solution.....
What am I supposed to do.... ??? How is this neat freak supposed to maintain her clean house???

Re: DS is terrified of
It is probably a phase. I used to have to close the door to my son's room and vacume only at night. Now he LOVES when I vacume and wants to "help" me. I had to buy him his own so he would stop pulling mine apart.

If I cleaned more I could tell you.
How about getting him a toy vacuum?

Re: DS is terrified of
Christopher HATES it with a passion. If I turn it on when he's in the room, he jumps, crawls over to me as fast as he can, clings onto my leg and starts whimpering. It's gotten to the point where as soon as I pull the vaccuum out, he panics. Needless to say, I vaccuum after he goes to bed now.

That is what I figured Id do- but it woke him up... what do you think my plan 2 should be?

Re: DS is terrified of
Hmm...that's a tough one then. Is there a time of day that your DH can take him outside while you vaccuum quick?

Hmmm, come clean this neat freaks house (but you wouldn't know it now)!
It's normal and there isn't too much you can do except talk to them to "prepare" them.

It's a phase, Andrew went through it too. I just didn't vacuum for awhile, I made DH do it while we were out.
Now when I vacuum, I must let Andrew have a turn with it or he cries if I don't let him!

Angela started doing this too, at like 12 months. I just kind of played it down, and when she was freaking out I held her while I vacuumed and danced a little bit and tried to make a game out of it. Now, she whines a little bit when I turn it on, but doesn't freak out.

Re: DS is terrified of
I think they are just getting to an age where they are finally developing fears when they used to be fearless!
Emily is suddenly afraid of men in baseball caps!
If he doesn't freak out if you are holding him, can you put him in the babybjorn/snugli and vacuum with him on you?

Wear him in a carrier when you vacuum.

I was going to suggest this...
Jared is afraid of the electric mixer and the electric knife...

Re: DS is terrified of
My nephew is the complete opposite (he is 12 months). He smiles and coos when it's on, but the minute his mom shuts it off he starts screaming. It's acutally quite commical to watch. One time he was standing by it (he will hold on to it if it is off so his mom does not put it away) and my brother picked him up and had him hug it and was saying "I can't seem to quit you". We were hysterical.

Re: DS is terrified of
Molly is VERY afraid of it. Scott really vacumns in our house so I take Molly into another room and I always let her know that he will be putting it on.
