DS keeps getting out of his big boy bed at night

As of the New Year I've put DS in a big boy bed. He loves it! But, now he gets out of bed at least 10 times and I have to redirect him to go back to bed. The last 3 nights he hasn't gone to sleep before 10pm and last night when he was with ExH he didn't go to sleep until 11pm. A friend of mine suggested putting a baby gate up in his room so he can't keep walking around the house. This way there is less temptation to stay awake. I even went as far the other night as to call ExH and have him pretend to be Santa and say he was coming to take all of his presents if he didn't go to sleep. That worked for 5 minutes...then he was walking around again.

Anyone have this issue? What did you do?

Like your friend, I have baby gates up on both my kids' doors. The baby gate works for my son- he cries for an hour some nights, but then he gets a clue that I'm not going to stay in his room. He eventually climbs into his own bed and falls asleep.

The baby gate is not working as well for my daughter. She sometimes tries to climb over it and gets her foot stuck in the bars

I feel like it's musical prison riot some nights!
