God Diana I hope a BTDT answers soon, but I'm thinking it's kind of like CIO again, where you go in, soothe him, no stimulation, little or no eye contact, and time it for longer and longer stretches, kwim??? I know it's hard but it's only going to take a few days and he'll be sleeping like a champ again!!!

He is so smart! He played me like a damn fiddle.
He would throw out Woo Woo (puppy) so that I would go and get him, then I would put him back into bed and he would say "DOWN" because he wanted me to sit down. After doing this for about 40 minutes I finally gave in and stayed till he fell asleep. I can't do this every night though. DH was home tonight but this is the time I get to spend with Jack once Ty goes to bed. I'm so done and seriously need Super Nanny.

DD would fake us out so bad. She would lay on the floor and yell that she fell and hit her head. She would throw her lovies and say she "lost" them.
We would go in ONCE, give her back her stuff and say "Ok goodnight, mommy and daddy are NOT coming back in no matter what. See you in the morning" and after a night or two when she realized we really werent coming back in she was fine.

I know you do CIO but short of locking them in and leaving not sure how well it works once they can get out of bed (even if you put up a gate won't he just fall asleep on the floor by the door)?- but since he can get out and run around can you maybe either a) sit with your back to him by the door until he calms down enough to sleep or b) come in and out - like say I have to put this away - and leave for a minute come back, put something in his drawer - tell him you have something else to do and will check back in 3 mins etc.

The first two nights we stayed until he fell asleep. The third night, we said good night and just left. He screamed for five minutes, then laid his head down and went to sleep.

Babygate on the door and let him cry. When Jordan was little, we did this and she fell asleep on her floor for a few nights and then we would put her in bed. After a few nights, she was like, screw this, I am just gonna sleep in my bed.

DS is the king of procrastination. Unfortunately, CIO is the only thing that worked for us - especially when we transitioned him from the crib to the bed (he started to climb out at about 18 months). We have to lock him with a hook and latch in every night b/c that is the only way he will stay in his room.

yep, THIS..
Diana, this was a BIG battle for me with christian.. he would get out like 20 times in one night but it's a battle of WILLS and you need to keep at it to show him that it's MOMMY way!
Unless he is crying because something is seriously wrong, IGNORE him. simple as that.. he will get it that it's bed time and that's it.
I'm sorry!
