DSL Moms - question about a new lens - Sigma???

Does anyone have Sigma lens for either their Canon or Nikon DSLs?

I wanted a new lens - but didn't want DH to pay all that money -- he did some research and found that these Sigma lenses are compatible for our camera - but less money.

Anyone know anything about this? He bought them already - I just want to make sure I should keep them.

I'm getting a Sigma lens for xmas..DH bought it already, and I've tried it out while he was at work Chat Icon
I don't know too much about them, I did a little research, but really just on prices. I did read a few reviews that all seemed good. I figured that since I'm not a professional and really just taking pics of DD, that its fine for me. Chat Icon

My photography teacher said to stick with Nikkor lenses for Nikon cameras.

I was tempted by the Tamron lenses because of the price but ended up getting a Nikon Lens.

That's what I've always heard. I also read through KenRockwell.com that the sigma lenses aren't always good for Canon cameras. Not sure which camera you have Chat Icon

I tried that route first...the one I got did not have an automatic focus so I sent it back and got the Nikor lens.....

I am not sure if ANY of the Sigma's have an automatic focusChat Icon

Im a lense snob and will only buy Nikon lenses for my camera..but I really dont know why.

But what lense are you looking into? And what do you want to use it for?

Some camera shops will take your camera equipment and give you a credit towards your next purchase...

I cant afford the lense on the top of my list so I went with plan B. The lense Im getting is really exactly what I need and it's pretty cheap...

That's what I did. I got the plan B lens.

I may exchange/sell my lens when I am ready to buy the plan A the expensive lens I want.

In truth...Plan B was really the lense I need anyway....and a speedlight. I still came in under the price of the original lense.

I think after this Im going to save up for the D300 instead of more lenses.

Re: DSL Moms - question about a new lens - Sigma???

I got a cheaper lens for my camera and IMO it's not worth it.

The focus isn't as good, the pictures aren't as sharp and they don't do well in anything less than bright light.

If it's all you can afford, it's better than nothing but I think it's one of those things where you get what you pay for.
