Due Date accuracy - First Time Pregnancies
Hello everyone.
Just curious...
Are first time pregnancy due dates usually accurate? Or do first timers usually go early or late?
I know it's different for everyone....but is there a general rule of thumb?
Thanks!

I think it's really different for everyone, however I feel like first timers tend to go past their due date more often than not but that is truly just my opinion.

My doctor said it has more to do with miscalculation of conception date rather than first timers going late. The just have their cycles confused.

Re: Due Date accuracy - First Time Pregnancies
I've heard the wives tale that first timers are late, but everyone in my family has been early with first timers...I'm hoping I continue the trend...

Re: Due Date accuracy - First Time Pregnancies
I knew exactly when I conceived with my first since I was temping. I actaully ovulated late in my cycle, which would have pushed my due date back a week.
DD arrived almost 3 weeks early from the due date that the dr. calculated from LMP. Everyone kept telling me that with your first you go late, so needless to say, I thought that I had a LOT more time to get ready!

Re: Due Date accuracy - First Time Pregnancies
My dr. moved my due date up a week based on the last sono (I get them weekly.) As for what will really happen...who knows!

Re: Due Date accuracy - First Time Pregnancies
My son was born 2 weeks early. My OB said it can go either way 2 weeks before or 2 weeks after your estimated due date.

Re: Due Date accuracy - First Time Pregnancies
Sorry to crash...I've been wondering about this myself and I wonder if IVF has any impact on it since you know exactly when you conceived. (Dh is the best man in a wedding 3 days before my due date, Uh Oh!)

Re: Due Date accuracy - First Time Pregnancies
My first was one week late by my official due date, but one day late by the sonogram due date. I believe the average for a first pregnancy is just over 41 weeks. Due dates are just an estimate anyway so even if your dates are completely right, the baby will still come when it's ready.

Re: Due Date accuracy - First Time Pregnancies
just about everyone I know has either had their first baby either right on time (give or take a day), or early.
I know my due date is accurate as I went through IVF, so we'll see in February!

Re: Due Date accuracy - First Time Pregnancies
I went 8 days early according to my EDD. However, the day I had DD was the day I thought I should be due accornding to my LMP.

My doctor said it has more to do with miscalculation of conception date rather than first timers going late. The just have their cycles confused. I have heard that as well, but there are of course exceptions. My Dr. was recently telling me about a study that finds a correlation between early labor an first trimester bleeding. I'd agree with that....I had bleeding in the first tri with G and he came 3.5 weeks early.

Re: Due Date accuracy - First Time Pregnancies
Well, I was due on March 28 and delivered three days late on march 31. I hear that first time pregnancies are later. Second time pregnancies are earlier. So I hear.

Re: Due Date accuracy - First Time Pregnancies
Due dates are really guesses based on averages. My doctor explained to me that it was better to think of it as a "due month" -- you could go 2 weeks before the due date or two weeks after. I think that's a pretty good way to look at it -- it keeps you from stressing about a particular date.

Re: Due Date accuracy - First Time Pregnancies
I was five days late and would have gone later if left on my own. I had a c-section after a non-stress test. I wasn't even having contractions yet.
