Re: Due In April 2010 - starting a group here
I just wanted to "re-introduce" myself. My name is Jodi. Due April 12th. Just had our ultrascreen this past Saturday. We just told my parents yesterday so I feel i can now begin to come out of hiding.
I am high risk and we have a long road ahead of us, but for today, we can breathe a little and try to enjoy each monent/day
My next appointment isn't until October 31st -level 2 sono.
The long wais are a killer in between appointments. Want to get a fetal doppler but DH has reservations and thinks it will do more harm than good (thinks it wil mke me more nervous and anxious).
As for symptoms, SO EXHAUSTED by the afternoon, really sore boobs, and ALWAYS HUNGRY!!!
Praying for ALL of us xoxo

Re: Due In April 2010 - starting a group here
JoJo2010 (Joanna): Good luck at your ultrascreen Wednesday!
Mishka: I, too am hungry almost all the time and can't figure out what I want! Good luck at your ultrascreen Thursday!
BlueKat16 (Kathy): Good luck, Thursday!
Shiv: Enjoy the rest of your week and have fun telling everyone you ARE PREGGERS!
SweetDreams (Jodi): Your due date is one day before mine! My husband I bought a doppler and I can't hear the baby's hb on it yet, but it detects it with a reading. We should be able to hear it on there soon. I am incredibly paranoid that something will go wrong, but I manage to only use the doppler once a week. I think if you and your hubby can come to an agreement about it, you will be happy to have it throughout your pregnancy for peace of mind, especially since you are high risk. Yes, always hungry... LOL
AFM: My ultrascreen is tomorrow. Worried about weight gain and not happy with the way my body looks and feels right now :( I am happy that today is my last day of progesterone suppositories! I am 12weeks exactly tomorrow. I hope everything goes well at the ultrascreen tomorrow.
I'd love to hear how everyone else is doing!
Aimee still keeping you in my thoughts.

it's only really a screening to tell you the probablity that there miiight be a risk, but even if u are put in the "risk" section it doesnt mean there is anything wrong with your baby...so the test isnt realllllly necessary. sometimes it even causes more worry.
im 27...we're doing it because it doesnt hurt the baby and its more for piece of mind (hopefully)...and just to let us know if maybe we need to consider another test.
if u cant take it...i wouldnt stress. i think there are tests later on that would be able to tell u similar types of info.

I'm doing the ultracreen becasue I'm 33 and will be 34 when the baby comes...DH and I thought it was a good idea considering our age group.
They told me it wasn't necessary ut my choiccec if you want it. Just remember it's a risk assessment, not necessarily a diagnosis.
If you can and your insurance covers it I say go for it.

Re: Due In April 2010 - starting a group here
KeepingSecrets: I am so sorry to hear of your loss, your story was devastating to read. I am glad you found a good doctor who was able to help you do the right thing for your baby and you were able to feel confident in your decision, though of course it was one of the most difficult experiences of your life.
Karen: I recommend the ultrascreen. It is more important since you are 35 (I also just turned 35). But if I conceived my child at a younger age, I would have had this test since it is simple and can determine birth defects that would be important to be prepared for on delivery day and after. I am hoping the result of myultrascreen will indicate that I don't need amniocentesis, which is invasive and has a risk of miscarriage. Ultrascreen does not. The circumstance under which I would terminate my pregnancy would have to be life-threatening to the baby, their life would be full of suffering. It is good to be prepared with aperinatologist and pediatrician who is prepared, or perhaps even a neonatal surgeon if your child has a birth defect. Unprepared, those type of doctors may not be available at your delivery or post-natal. You may also need to have nursing care set up for your baby when you get home, etc. All they do is an ultrasound andbloodwork and you should be able to have it done on a lunch break, though it is frequently done at a hospital, not OB's office.
AFM: I had my ultrascreen today and it was a very easy test. The doctor was able to determine that we are probably having a girl! We find out the results of the blood test in one week. The ultrasound did not show indications of Down Syndrome, though I am aware theblood work results are imperative in ruling it out, among other things. I am hoping to avoid amniocentesis, though it is recommended by my RE since we are IVF with ICSI.
QUESTION: For those of you who had IVF w/ ICSI - are you definitely going to have the amnio or are you going to decide based on the results of your ultrascreen?

I did a CVS rather than an amnio because I didn't want to wait. To us, it was a no brainer even though I am only 31. Since we were doing the CVS, we didn't do the ultrascreen since the CVS is diagnostic where the ultrascreen is just a screener. I actually get the results back tomorrow...hopefully, everything will be good. I am dying to know if it is a boy or a girl. I am 13 weeks today!

So sad to say, you can remove me from the list.
We had the CVS done and my baby came back w/ a diagnosis of Tisonomy 18. We were/are completely devastated!
I wish all of you a happy & healthy pregnancy and look forward to seeing all the new baby pictures come April
