Hold up, I thought they were calling it the forever stamp because the prices weren't going to change???? Chat Icon

No, the price is now able to be changed every year to keep up with inflation, but due to the frequent changes, tey created the forever stamp, so the stamps you already bought are good forever.

I can't believe they are raising the price again! I just bought a roll of 41 centers. Chat Icon

Re: Due to the looming Stamp price increase

If you bought the .41 forever stamps, they are good forever (you will not need to use the 1 or 2 cent stamps every time the prices increase). If you bought regular "designer" .41 stamps, you will need to keep up with the price increases.
Every time the prices increase though, the price of the forever stamp will increase accordingly as well.

I think it's more than reasonable. We all complain about how much of an impact the price of gas is on our wallets. Almost all the USPS does is drive... the cost of gas must be killing them. They don't get money from the gov't, so stamps is the majority of their income. I'm surprised it's only going up the tiny amount that it is.

ITA! For less than $0.50 someone will take a letter from my doorstep and hand deliver it anywhere in the US, even Alaska or Hawaii within a reasonable amount of time.

ITA.

And let's put it in perspective. The price is going up one penny per stamp. For 1,000 stamps, that's only $10 more.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I certainly don't go through anywhere near 1,000 stamps in a year.

The price of stamps have no impact on me - I actually think they are the deal of the century. I can put an envelope in a box on the corner and it gets delivered almost anywhere quickly for less then 50 cents.

The shipping rates for priority mail is going up also, that's where I will feel the increase. It's not so much per package but if you are sending out a lot; it starts to add up.

The new law they passed when they created the forever stamp limits how much they can raise it at a time, it has to reflect inflation, but they review every year now.

That's what my husband always says--it's still the best deal around!

I agree, it doesn't bother me as far as mailing bills & birthday cards goes, but it does have an impact on my budget at work, especially the prices for flats & priorty & things like that.

Exactly! The most annoying thing with previous stamp increases was getting new stamps, since I usually buy a hundred at a time just to avoid going to the post office ( greeting cards are big in my family) so I like the idea of the Forever Stamp. I never buy the fancy ones anyway. ( Mostly because that entaisl waiting on a line run by humans--I can get the forever stamps from a machine!)

In case anyoneis interested in the new law:

Pricing Files and Helpful Information

"Consistent with The Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act, we will adjust our mailing services prices each May. By law, these prices can increase on average no more than the rate of inflation as measured by the Consumer Price Index. We plan to provide 90 days' notice of the new prices each year, to help mailers prepare for the change. "

Postal Accountibilty & Enhancement Act

The only probelm I have with yearly increases, is that last time it took months for your postage machine at work to be properly updated. I don't know if the process has improved. Our vendor isn't always the most helpful.
