dumb question from a new mom

My son's circumcision is almost completely healed. do we continue using vaseline when changing his diapers or do we start using diaper rash cream? or is that ONLY when he has a diaper rash. sorry this is such a stupid question. I haven't changed a diaper before him since my 15 year old sister was a baby

You use vaseline, mainly so the healing skin doesn't get stuck to a gauze pad or the diaper. You should have seen DH slather it on--he wasn't taking any chances with his boy.

Not a dumb question at all, it's all confusing in the beginning.

With DS Im pretty sure we continued to use A&D regardless of whether or not he had a rash or not.

Even if the circumcision is completely healed you can run the risk of it re-adhering.

When do you take him back to the ped? I would discuss it with them at your next visit....

I was so dumbfounded when I had DS. After having all these girls I didnt know what to do with his "package"..

Even after his circumcision was healed we put A&D on. For awhile....I used a very little bit til he was a year and now only use it when he is red.

As they say " He who asks a question is a fool for a minute, he who doesnt is a fool forever"

Theres no such thing as a dumb question Chat Icon

With me, I only use diaper creme when I see some redness, otherwise occasionally after an explosive poo...I kept using vaseline on my DS's circumcision till he was fully healed thoughChat Icon

I wouldn't (and don't) use diaper cream unless he is red or has a rash (VERY infrequently, I think he has had like 2 or 3 in 2 years)

I like A&D and will use that in spurts

Use the vasaline until you are 1000% sure he is healed. After that only use the diaper cream when there is a rash!Chat Icon
