Dyson vs. Roomba?
Can anyone give any insight to either? I want to purchase one of these for our house. We have a chocolate lab and a 1 year old and I need something AMAZING that is going to pick up the mess...more the dog hair than anything. I vacuum every night with a regular vacuum that I just don't think is cutting it anymore!

THis is true, I guess I am just looking for the best thing to pick up the hair. I would assume it would be the vacuum.

Re: Dyson vs. Roomba?
I've heard lots of complaints about Dyson, then I hear people loving them.
I have a Kirby and its amazing with our three dogs (even tho only one sheds, our Lab). They are a bit pricey but so worth it. DH bought it 8 years ago and it still kicks a**
My mom has the Oreck and love it (she has one dog that sheds). I think the Oreck runs around $300--$400
My mom has the Roomba too, hates it.

Re: Dyson vs. Roomba?
I have a roomba and 2 yellow labs. We have all hardwood floors (no area rugs). It works okay... I had it programed to go off every day, but I still needed to run the real vacuum. However, I have 2 sons, and they think it is fun to play with....so for now, the roomba is in the closet. You have to empty it every day.... it gets full of hair, but it does pick up pretty well on the wide open spaces. I would use it as a bonus to your regular vacuum.

Interesting, I feel like my dog would hate it and DD would chase it lol. I just was curious to know if Roombas alleviate having to run the vacuum everyday maybe to every other day!!
Kimberly: where did you get your vacuum from I don't see a distributor online?

DH bought it from a salesman who came door to door after the houses in the development were built. Here is the link to local distributors

or you can try calling the specialty stores in your area.

Since having DD the dog hair really makes me crazed so I've upped the vacuuming!

Re: Dyson vs. Roomba?
Several independent tests have consistently rated Dysons as much lower in vacuuming power than many other brands, and the other brands are half the price.
Most people love their Dysons because the ARE tremendously better than their old vacs. Most new vacs are better than old ones. However, a new non-Dyson will potentially be much better than a new Dyson.
I have the Eureka Boss vacuums, which were rated much better than any Dyson, and almost half the price (so I bought two, one for upstairs, and one for downstairs... )

Re: Dyson vs. Roomba?
I forgot to mention .....the dog hair....do you have the furminator?
I ordered this online and use it every other day and you would be amazed at how much hair I pull off my lab. It cuts down my sweeping, swiffering and vaccumming. It may help.

Re: Dyson vs. Roomba?
I personally love my Dyson--though I often read complaints on here. We have the Animal with the Ball. It picks up soooo much more than our old vacuum did (especially pet hair).
We also have a Roomba that I got as a gift a few years ago. I think we used it twice. We felt like it took forever...got hung up in odd spaces and freaked the dog too much.

Re: Dyson vs. Roomba?
I have the Dyson Vacuum, the Dyson handheld AND the Roomba...
We put the Roomba on every day when we go to work and we vacuum when we have guests, once a week or once every two weeks. The Roomba is the best for the daily vacuuuming...but I would never use it as the main vacuum...it does not do THAT great of a job on carpets/rugs.
I love all three!!!!! couldn't live without them!!!! (especially with a frenchie that sheds like a mofo).

Re: Dyson vs. Roomba?
We got the Roomba years ago and hated it for dog hair!! But we also had three dogs at the time (lab, golden & a mutt).
If I could find it in the basement & dust it off, I could try now that we only have one dog (lab) but I'm so soured on it, I can't be bothered!

Re: Dyson vs. Roomba?
We got my dad the roomba as a gift (he retired before mom and therefore got vacuuming duty), he says it's a fun toy, but doesn't replace his electrolux (great and lightweight for them - but pricey!)
I don't usually vacuum DH is a little obsessive about it (everyday) and he likes the dyson, but he has gone through about 18 different mops - I dont argue, since he is doing that cleaning
