Early bedtimes in the summer...WDYD?
DS has kind of a bedtime that he decided on himself, somewhere around 9:00pm. Anywhere within that hour he'll fall asleep.
I know since he's only 3.5 months right now and that his schedule and routine will change, but I'm just wondering what you do if youre out at a BBQ or party or something in the summer? Do you always have a pack and play with you? My mom babysits sometimes at night and he'll stay asleep in the car and into his crib, but what do you do like on vacations and stuff? I'm sure I'll figure it out but my mother was stressing me out saying its not really a great idea to stick to a schedule. I didnt even make it though, I just follow his cue. I just dont want his sleep to be all thrown off OR which is worse...be overtired and not be able to fall asleep but still wake up at 7am! That was last night's senario bc grandma and grandpa came to visit and stayed until 10pm. They just kept him up playing where I wind down the night at 7pm. My new rule is no more playtime after 8pm, so thats what got me thinking, what will I do in the summer?

Go with the flow.
On vacations I'd feed DS b4 we went out for dinner and have him in his PJ's so he usually slept through dinner.
If we're out past his bedtime sometimes he stays up b/c there's so much going on and he's happy and watching or playing then as soon as we get in the car he'll fall asleep.
Also depends on where we're at... Family usually has a pac-n-play if I need it. Anywhere else we have the stroller he's slept in or on me.

when DS was little he would just sleep in carseat or pack in play. Since he was about maybe 1 I make sure he is home for bed, or put him to bed at his bedtime wherever we are (usually we just leave him w/sitter).

I always kept my sons bedtimes at 7pm -8 pm and rarely moved from that. I would try to get home from places BEFORE their bedtime.
In cases where that doesnt work I have a crib/playpen for them to sleep
OR I bring pjs so that they can be comfy and then fall asleep in car on way home and then transport to their beds

I've kept dd up past her bedtime if we are out etc. as long as its not all the time I dont think its a big deal. If its going to be pretty often I'd def. bring a pack n play and then just hope he will fall back asleep after you transfer to the crib.. or leave him w/ grandma if you can!

I have my pack n plays in my car, tho we never have unscheduled overnights. If we plan to go and stay late-we set up their PNP's and they go to bed around normal time. They ALWAYS cry but we let them CIO and sleep in the same room if we are not at home. Sometimes we stay over. If we don't we get them up, take them home and put them into their cribs-they usually go right back to sleep

With DD I went with the flow, but she adjusted easily and would sleep pretty much anywhere.
DS was completely the opposite, once his usual bedtime rolled around he turned into a miserable, cranky mess so it wasn't worth pushing it. He's still the same way, he needs to get to bed at his usual time or he's miserable.
I'd try going with the flow and seeing what happens.

I also forgot that if we are outside I make them comfy in their strollers sometimes and walk until they fall asleep

Re: Early bedtimes in the summer...WDYD?
My DD does not do well with a go with the flow type day. Never has. Maybe as she gets older she will. But when the kid wants to sleep, she wants to sleep and she will ONLY sleep in her crib. No pack and play and no car. And she does NOT transfer from car to crib either.
Her current bedtime is between 7/7:30, we do not stray from this otherwise we have a monster on our hands. I always make sure I am home by her bedtime. If we want to go out in the evening we schedule our babysitter or my MIL will watch her.

this is me too. DD is almost 4 and her bedtime is 7:30 pm - I have only kept her out past her bedtime a handful of times in 4 yrs. she is a mess without keeping to her schedule. Itsjust not worth it for me. I leave the party/BBQ early.
