Spinoff to Diana's post: early bedtimes?
Ok, so I read and hear that so many babies/toddlers go to bed early, like before 6pm on somenights.
But what do you think would happen if your schedule didn't allow for this? We don't get home until 6pm the EARLIEST and Christopher is in bed anywhere from 7pm-8pm.
I guess my question is, what would you do if you had to change DC's schedule?

I think babies adapt too.
Until I was a SAHM, DS was in daycare until 6:30-7pm. He goes to bed around 8pm. He still does not. And he is used to wake up at 6am or so. DH gets up at that time and he got into a routine to wake up when he heard the shower (next room to his bedroom).
So even if we don't get up at 6am. HE does!!!

Re: Spinoff to Diana's post: early bedtimes?
I wouldn't care - and would LOVE for him to go to bed closer to 7:30 BUT - on most days it just won't happen. If he doesn't take an afternoon nap he goes crazy by 6.
We are just now pushing him when we are out - and two out of the three times so far it worked out great - one time he had a meltdown at 6:15 so my parents left with him.
You have to remember - I'm home with him all day long - so it's very doable with our daily schedule. If I was a working mom it would def. have been different from the getgo.

Diana, did you notice you did a spin off to one my bedtime posts?
No, I understand though, remember, Christopher was home with one of us until he was 10 months old, so we have made a lot of changes in the past 3 months

OMG How funny! We get each other thinking apparently
But, Christopher has always been an easy adaptable baby (correct me if I'm wrong here) whereas Jack - ummm - how do I put this nicely about my son - is a crazy baby when he is tired and out of sorts and overtired.
He used to beat the crap out of me when he was tired and couldn't fall asleep....who gets their azz kicked by a 5 month old

Re: Spinoff to Diana's post: early bedtimes?
EVERYONE adapts DC's bedtime schedule at least twice a year. Daylight Saving Time messes with everyone.... we all manage....
Until DC has a morning requirement to be on a schedule (daycare, Gymboree, etc), I don't see why it matters what time DC wakes or goes to sleep. As long as they get enough sleep overall. When we first had DC, we kept them up until about 10pm. It just worked for us. As they got a little older, we kept moving it earlier. Now they go to bed around 8-8:30.

Re: Spinoff to Diana's post: early bedtimes?
DS goes to sleep at 9 on the dot these days, sometimes 8:30 at 6 months. Until he was about 4.5 months, he went to sleep around 10. Some family members kept telling me that was too late and 9 is too late, but he seems fine with it. He sleeps through the night and gets up around 8 or 9 the next day (sometimes with an early morning bottle). I'm not planning to mess with this! Sure I could try and put him to bed earlier, but he'll also get up earlier, and I'll lose the little time I have to myself in the morning.
When I go back to work, he'll need to get on an earlier schedule, but until then, I don't see the point. He would also not see DH much at all if he went to bed at 6--he doesn't get home until 7:30 most days.

Re: Spinoff to Diana's post: early bedtimes?
I am bad with bedtime.
Once he is asleep, I get so lonely and cabin fevery...Leo is never home at night. The TV bores me.
We met for a playdate last night at 6:15
I love park playdates 6-8...its a little cooler out by then. Then by the time we get home, eat, bath, read...close to 9:30.
if its a rainy day I will put him down at 7:30.

This doesn't seem bad though, unless your child isn't getting enough sleep. If he is still getting sleep, it's fine.

Re: Spinoff to Diana's post: early bedtimes?
We dont really have a set bedtime. In general he goes to bed about 9 but it's not a done deal by any means....We have a set routine but not a set schedule (does that make sense?) DH puts him to bed and Caden will usually wait for Daddy. He's good with going to bed whether it be for naps or down for the night...He'll even sleep in on the weekends. The funny part is that, in general, I dont find him a particularly good sleeper. He's the easiest of mine to put down but he's up during the night and in general sleeps 10 hours not 12...
It works for us...
