Easy and kid friendly NYE dish?

We are invited to friends' for a casual new years eve get together. Will be just one or two other families. We are driving home from Vermont new years eve day so I won't have a lot of time to shop/cook something elaborate. What can I make that is easy, but that kids and grownups will enjoy? Can be appetizer/main dish/dessert-doesn't matter. Thanks!!!

Crescent dogs, spinach dip in a bread bowl, taco or chili dip. Maybe something like brownies, ice cream, and some toppings to make brownie sundaes for dessert.

Re: Easy and kid friendly NYE dish?

Mac n Cheese

I sometimes make this for holidays, etc. Everyone LOVES it. I do a few things though to alter the recipe. I usually use sharp cheddar and mild cheddar, not American (simply b/c I usually don't find American Shredded cheese and can't be bothered shredding my own).

This recipe calls for onion and it adds such an amazing flavor..You could omit the onion if you don't like onion. Dh prefers less oniony taste, so I use half the onion they recommend (unless you like REALLY oniony flavored things). And I take about 4 to 6 slices of white bread and dry it out to make bread crumbs (a day or two before), and toss the breadcrumbs in melted butter and salt and spread them on the mac and cheese before you bake it. I keep it covered halfway through cooking time then uncover for the rest of the cooking time. The mac and cheese has a buttery crumby coatin on top. People LOVE it!

Better Homes and Gardens Best Loved Mac and Cheese

2 cups dried elbow macaroni (8 ounces)
1/2 cup chopped onion (1 medium)
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
2-1/2 cups milk
1-1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (6 ounces)
1-1/2 cups shredded American cheese (6 ounces)

Directions
1. Cook macaroni according to package directions. Drain; set aside.

2. Meanwhile, for cheese sauce, in a medium saucepan cook onion in hot butter until tender. Stir in flour and pepper. Add milk all at once. Cook and stir over medium heat until slightly thickened and bubbly. Add cheeses, stirring until melted. Stir in cooked macaroni. Transfer mixture to a 2-quart casserole.

3. Bake, uncovered, in a 350 degree F oven for 25 to 30 minutes or until bubbly and heated through. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.

4. Makes 4 servings

5. Saucepan Macaroni and Cheese: Prepare as above, except reduce milk to 2 cups. After draining macaroni, immediately return macaroni to the saucepan. Pour cheese sauce over macaroni; stir to coat macaroni with sauce. Cook over low heat for 2 to 3 minutes or until heated through, stirring frequently. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.

Roll mozzarella and pepperoni (or just mozzarella) into crescent rolls. Dip in pizza sauce.
