i just don't get how people can buy bags or designer jewelry on there

Haven't done so I can't say but I was looking the other day at a cute Prada bag (omg...listen to me...I really am going over to the other side! Chat Icon ) at an amazing price and all over the listing they wrote that you could bring it into an authorized store and that if they declared it a fake in writing, they would refund your money.

Re: Ebay

if its too good to be true- then its fake

i bought my kooba- saw pics of her holding this kooba and the real leather etc. plus it wasnt SUPER cheap - but maybe 15% cheaper then the store sale

and when i got it- it was 100000% real

you need to look at feedback and also see if they give you 100% back for authenticity

if there is even 1 complaint about authenticity, then do not buy from that buyer

anyway, i did it for one bag and i love my real bag- so i definitely trust this seller i bought it from and will buy again from her

Re: Ebay

The best way is to know your product BEFORE you buy, and the sellers as well. I don't know much about jewelry, so I wouldn't drop any important amount of money on jewelry from Ebay. At least until I was better informed.

Pay with a credit card, you can do a charge back if the item you bought is fake.

Even so, there are lot of scams and fakes get better by the day- so you are still taking a chance. If you are comfortable with that, great. If not, then don't.

The money back guarantee if you can get it in writing from the maufacturer thing can be tricky, too. I don't know any high end designer who has provided a letter like that.

I disagree with that. Just like there are scams to screw the buyers, there are scams to screw the sellers.

A buyer can receive a real bag, claim its fake and send a fake bag to the seller, demanding a refund.

Or, upon receipt of the item, the buyer can claim anything- it was late in arriving, it has a tear, blah blah in order to get a partial refund. If they don't get what they want, they threaten to post feedback saying that the seller sold them a fake.

I'd look for a high percentage of good feedback on the part of the seller, and rely on your own skills to tell the real from the fake.

i have that exact same bag!!!!!!!!

Bought it last year

I think i would be utterly embarrassed taking something into the store asking if it is real or not

well I kinda was embarrassed, but I made up a story that it was a gift Chat Icon for some reason, I thought that would be better than saying I bought it on eBay Chat Icon

the moment the sales woman told me it was real, I forgot that I was embarrassed lol

I was VERY happy! Chat Icon

Get a guarantee from the seller that it is indeed authentic and if it is not then you'll get a refund.

When you get the item bring it the company's store and have them check it out.

not allowed too, but it still happens. Ebay does seem to go through alot of those type of listings and follow through.... I once listed a kate spade bag and didn't even list it as authentic, said it could very well be a fake... and ebay removed it right away.

yea, there are definately some great deals you come across that really seem too good to be true. I think alot of people just hope that all their positive feedback stands true and/or they have a good return policy. Chat Icon

I bought a Coach 5 years ago. The seller I bought from had good feedback from other Coach items, and I am 99.9% sure it's real. It's held up as well as my other Coach bags. They all get a lot of use and are very durable.

That said, I'd be hesitant now to buy anything designer on ebay. While I'm sure that there were fakes floating around back when I bought mine, I don't think that scams happened to the extent that they do now (unless they just weren't publicized). I don't want to push my luck.

There are other messageboards that will help you authenticate a handbag or item: TheFashionSpot and ThePurseForum(aka tPF)

tPF also has a MarketPlace where you can sell/trade/buy other members' bags, jewelry, shoes, etc.

I've purchased everything from semiprecious stones/jewelry to handbags to shoes (Blahniks) on Ebay with no problems. I received one fake Balenciaga handbag, but returned it to the seller and got all my money back. (I don't know whether she knew it was a fake or not since she didn't sell handbags regularly.)

I don't get eBay at all. You know that. You saw my post last night! Chat Icon

I would be wary of jewelry. I know DY gives their employees a sick discount, so it could be legit...but this is one brand that's very much knocked off.

White gold, diamonds...what kind of stone is that supposed to be? Tanzanite, sapphire? I can't tell.
