ebay-ers: question about handling fee?

ebay-ers: question about handling fee?
I am very new to the world of ebay. There is an item I want to bid on, but it says there is a $2 handling fee in addition to the item and shipping. What's that all about? Is it legit?
Sorry if this is a stupid question - I'm just clueless.

Yea, it's legit. They are basically charing you for the packaging, the paper and ink to print postage, the time it takes them to get to the post office, the gas in their car, wear and tear on the car....  you know 
$2 is reasonable, no worries.
Is the postage "calculated" or listed as a flat fee?

Okay thanks! $2 is nothing but just wanted to make sure it wasn't a scam or something.
The postage is calculated based on location.
