EBF moms...I'm getting worried, please help...
I had DS on 9/8 and my milk came in, I'd say I was pretty engorged up until 2 days ago. When I got home from the hospital on 9/11 I was BFing and then pumping about 2oz per boob in the morning, some afternoons (not every) and evenings for a few days straight.
Now, yesterday and today my boobs feel empty. I was able to get DS through both nights on his usual 2-3 hrs sleep, but last night around dinner time and again this morning he didn't sleep after his feeding and was using hunger cues (hands in mouth, wiggling head side to side) like he wanted more. I just "topped" him off 2 times this morning for 10 minutes each. I tried pumping again too and I'm just getting droplets. I'm drinking a ton of water so I can't be dehydrated.
I'm soooo worried...could this mean I'm not producing enough for him? I'm so upset right now Any suggestions?

How often is he eating & how many diapers is he going through?
You could have a drop in your milk supply but I wouldn't think so this early on.

Keep feeding DC every 2 hours or so. Your milk supply is adjusting.
Did you talk to a LC?

Could be a growth spurt...When DS was around 10 days old he nursed like crazy for like two days - was constantly hungry and would empty me. Wait a few days and see what happens...

He is eating 7-8 times a day and his diapers are wet and usually poopy every time I change him before or after a feeding.

I'm wondering if you are misreading tired clues for hunger like I did. If he's eating every 2-3 hours & producing wet diapers, he's definitely getting enough.
I would feed him & then try pumping afterwards to bring the supply up.

I spoke to an LC this morning and she said its possilble that the baby going through a growth spurt and is now eating the equivielent to what I was pumping before...so my breasts arent feeling as full and I don't have much left to pump afterwards.
I wonder how common it is to just stop producing milk 10 days after delivering... Thats what I'm worried about.

Keep letting him nurse, he is probably demanding more and your body just needs a few days to adjust the supply. Don't worry about feeling empty, you don't need to be engorged for there to be plenty of milk!

Barb... it could be very possible.
At 2 weeks old, DS started getting fussy. I kept giving him the breast almost every hour. Of course, I could not keep up. Only to find out "4" weeks later that he was gassy and overtired. I did not understand his cues. DS was always fighting sleep (even now!) and would not nap. It took time for him to understand that it's OK to nap.

I would try a power pump to get yoru milk supply up. Its possible that he is going through a growth spurt so he is draining you. If you give it a few days your milk supply will increase, just keep putting the baby to the breast. I know its time consuming but it helps to really increase your milk supply. To power pump after you feed DS pump for 15 minutes on each breast.

Dana I went through similar and I have been BF/Pumping for 6 weeks now. I have started nursing on demand and she is gaining so she is getting enough. As long as he is gaining dont worry. It may very well be that we have to learn our baby's cues-I am still learning and this is #2.

I didnt produce enough milk for bryan either... you can take supplements of fenugreek vitiamins or drink a beer to increase milk production. Feed him as much as you can and pump after everyfeeding that will help build up your supply. In the end I swtiched to formula he seemed much more satisfied. which leads me to beleive that he was getting enough from me. I still EBF for 7 months but he did lose some weight.

OATMEAL and feenugeek will help. Pump for 5 minutes after each feeding to help increase your supply. Do not go on a major diet. Stress and lack of sleep can kill a milk supply. I KNOW it is hard to get enough sleep though but nap when you can. leave the dust on the shelves and take a nap..that can really help your supply. How much fluid are you drinking? Go for a walk with the baby..eat a candy bar (some womens swear fats help them produce more milk), have oatmeal often, drink your water and get some rest. You can also try to freeze some BM. That will help you feel more relaxed in case you have a drop in supply. Your period will also affect milk supply. Some women begin to produce less when they get their AF again.

Being engorged really doesn't mean anything. Your milk supply could have leveled off for what your baby needs.

Just 10 days post pardem your supply is still being established. If there are the appropriate # of wet/poopie diapers- you're golden. Being engorged is not an indicator of having enough milk.
I had all the same concerns as you in the beginning. Just feed on demand for awhile (exhausting- I know) until you have some semblence of a pattern developed. THEN- start pumping after feedings, or create a separate time for pumping (I do an exclusively pumped session every night at 9pm). Believe me- you'll increase your supply.
Please feel free to fm me with any questions- I feel like I have a good handle on the BFing thing at this point.

Re: EBF moms...I'm getting worried, please help...
first of all, congratulations on your baby and ebf. it's really hard work and you are doing great!!
please know that you are never truly "empty" and the feeling of engorgement is not what regular "full" should feel like. you are still very early on and you are learning all the signs your baby makes and your body too. my babies are almost 4 months and i'm still learning all the signs and cues. try not to think the worse (like that you don't have enough milk), i know it's hard, but you don't need added stress. if the baby is making enough dirty diapers you are doing it!!
i'm ebf 2 babies and i make enough milk for both. i got through the beginning weeks with much support and advice from bfing friends, lactation consultants and a la leche league leader. i really recommend:
-as much rest as possible!!
-eating healthy and a lot throughout the day
-drinking a lot of water, some milk and juice too
-pumping for 15 minutes after each nursing
-reading the womanly art of breastfeeding from the la leche league (tons of info)
-you can take one hour to increase your supply by pumping 12 minutes, resting 12 minutes, pumping 12 minutes, resting 12 minutes, pumping 12 minutes (total of 1 hour) i did it and it seemed to help.
good luck and feel free to fm me anytime too!!
don't forget, you are doing great!!!

Your production is probably fine. My DS went through many growth spurts where I swear he was feeding for forever. It was even feed 1, switch, feed the other, and back and forth for a couple hours.
It gets easier, just let him nurse and your supply will catch up in a couple days!
