Re: Edited: Graphic pictures showing this journey. Hello ladies...I'm out from the black hole!!!!
You know, I was just recently thinking about your original post from when you were not revealing yourself and wondering what had happened to you. I am so happy to hear the good news.
I have had 2 basal cells removed in the last 10 years. It's crazy because every dermatologist I have seen since then always tells me that I am so young to have had 2 basal cells removed already. Guess that is supposed to make me feel better?
The one I had removed from my chest left a horrible scar immediately following the procedure. Within 6 months, I had what looked like a large, red bump of a scar in the middle of my chest. I know it's not the face, but I understand your self-consciousness. But my dad tried to convince me that time would make it look better, and now years later, it is so much better than I could have expected! I am so glad to hear that your scar has improved so much in 6 months. In the pictures, you can't even tell and you are gorgeous!
So hang in there. I am so happy to hear all the good news about your condition and prognosis!

Melanoma runs in my family as well, which is why I've always gone for skin checks - that & the amount of tanning I've done in my teens & 20s.
I'm so glad you are healing & taking such precautions. I hope that's the last time you'll ever have to deal with it.

Re: Edited: Graphic pictures showing this journey. Hello ladies...I'm out from the black hole!!!!
Thank you for all the wonderful posts.
I do think I'm healing emotionally, and just spoke to my MD. She feels that I have passed the stage in healing that would've had crusting or scabbing, and that's good, because it didn't happen, and that would've indicated areas of cancer. So, I did have peeling (like a sunburn, thin like an onion); that indicated all sundamaged skin.
She would like me to have one more treatment....ughhhhhhhhh, I don't want to, but I probably will so I know I did everything I could do.
And this is giving me peace of mind, because I was starting to think every tiny dot/milla on my face was cancer, and wanted her to biopsy everything. So, at least if these things were cancers, they would've scabbed, and they didn't! Yay!
Thanks again everyone. Today I look more normal...still pink, but getting better every day.

I am so glad you are doing well and in better spirits. It's so hard not to think everything is cancer, I understand that very well. You have been thru so much and it's very scary. All you can do is take it one day at a time. You look amazing and have healed very nicely!

Wow what a story.. I'm so sorry for all that you have been through but very happy to read how well you are doing now. Your spirit and attitude is amazing, and you look beautiful both before and after. You cannot see the scar at all !
Thank you so much for sharing your story and the pictures. It serves as a lesson to us all to be diligent about our skin and to have checked anything that might seem abnormal -- as well as showing us that we all need to be our own advocates in terms of our health and the opinions/care we receive.
Continued good health and recovery to you

I am so sorry what you went through and your recovery seems remarkable! You're a strong and brave beautiful woman and you should be so proud of yourself for conquering this!
Have you thought about being an advocate against skin cancer, especially for those young girls that love tanning? I think you'd make an incredible difference!

Thank you!
I have thought about getting involved in skin cancer awareness. Many of my MDs tell me I should write, and get my story out there (no one can believe I had such an invasive skin cancer...people who have known me for decades never even saw it or noticed it...that's how "invisible" it was.
Now that I am getting past the emotional trauma, I do want to do something more for awareness.

I admire the strength you have to share your story and endure this process. I hope the pain (emotional and physical) is behind you and you can move forward.
All the best always...you are in my thoughts!
