Re: E.I. Evaluation today (UPDATED)
Glad it went well. Sydney is getting evaluated on Monday. I feel her only delay is expressive speech ...I wonder if she will qualify.

Okay, so a generalist/teacher and a speech therapist both came today. They ask you a slew of questions, everything from sleeping to eating habits.... all with the intent to help. The teacher tries to get a broad spectrum of the entire picture, everything from speech to our fmaily structure and what our general concerns may be, while the speech targets the speech problem.
They both took their turns to interview me and also DD. Daddy was with DD so I don't know exactly what they did in that area, but mostly giving her commands through the use of toys, asking questions and seeing if she follows through.
The results? As suspected, the only delay is her expressive speech. So, usually they go back and crunch their numbers, but the speech therapist flat out told us that yes, DD will qualify for the services, definitely. On the other hand though, they both agreed that DD is very advanced in the other areas that they tested her in, like her receptive speech, physical and play skills. She is scoring in the 18-21 months age range.
It was a very candid process. No pressure from either women. They were very helpful, friendly, very easy to talk to.
Our family is going through so much right now. I'm just glad that DD will get the help she needs. It's one less thing for me to worry about.
I do EI speech evals, and I don't want to scare you but DD might not qualify. EI is getting very strict about who they give services to, and nowadays a child with only an expressive delay (unless its a serious motor planning problem) often does not get services. They now require the child to have a delay in both areas (receptive and expressive) and it has to be a pretty severe one (more than two standard deviations below norm. Unfortunately I have seen way too many deserving children be denied the services they need because of the new regulations. I just don't want you to get your hopes up about getting services because she might end up not qualifying even if she would benefit from receiving them. Please FM me if you would like any more info...

Re: E.I. Evaluation today (UPDATED)
Thanks purplegirl, but they both told me that DD will DEFINITELY qualifies for services for speech therapy.
Maybe it also depends on the agency you deal with? Mine was bilingual, but in the end they said that DD is English dominant and will receive speech therapy in English only.
In any case, I guess I'll wait for the official word from them.
